Steering Wheel update.
The Humidity was down and time to paint again.


Gave it a light sand back and sprayed both Black and Clear again.
This time it came out right, should look even better when buffed.








A new shiny steering wheel.
One more job out of the way.

One of the guards had a few previous metal patches welded underneath and lots of filler.
Decided to "bite the bullet" and cut it all out and add new metal.



Trimmed off a bit more of the remaining edge that still had a bit of rust showing.
Then cut out a nice patch to weld back in.


Spot welded on both sides and ready to finish it off tomorrow.




That should just about be the end of the major rust repairs, just the sill on the body to redo.

Two steps forward, one step back.
Or is it one step forward two steps back.

Got a number of trim items polished up.


Before and after. Certainly made a big difference.

And painted a few as well.


And also cleaned up two of the interior door trims.



They should go well with my proposed colour scheme.


Unfortunately I didn't get even half way and my carpel tunnel really started acting up.
Constant pins and needles, puffed up and aching hands, will probably not sleep much tonight.
But good progress, just need to go a bit slower in future.

Another aspect on the "not so good" side.

The passenger side guard had been repaired near the spot welded section (new metal attached using nuts and bolts).
And lots of filler added. Its seems to be a very difficult area to get at and repair.
Have cut some of it out, but it looks like a real pain to make up a new section to weld back in.



You can see the bolts in this closeup. Obviously didn't cut out enough.


I think a replacement guard might be a better option. Shame I have already done so much work on it.
I wonder if anyone has a reasonable EK passenger side front guard, that I can get in Brisbane.
Or even a rusty guard that was OK in that area, I could cut that section out.

Over the weekend I got around to cutting it right back and welding in more metal, and filling the joints.
The guards are finally starting to come together.

Good stuff Finney, I have a mate who was an auto elec and he ended up suffering badly from carpel tunnel too. He was seeing a chiropractor who actually made it better and more manageable.

Tried to get some more panels undercoated last weekend, but it was just one issue after the next.
Started with dropping the spray gun siphon tube first into the dirt.

Today was a lot better, hopefully can get most of the other panels finished tomorrow.

Finally have everything done in primer, first coat anyhow.
Feels good to know most of the panel work is finished, just the sill on the body to finish.
Can already see a few areas that will need more work, I sense a lot of sanding ahead.



But I also got some final paint onto the car.
The dash is finished, very close to the original Clinker Grey, in satin.


Looks a bit lighter in the photo's than in real life.






And if you see something that looks familar, yes, it was a cold night.......
