EJ Premier

Post by samprinci »

Gday all.
I've been a little quiet latly. had my head stuck under the Bonnet of my EJ Prem for the last few months... Actually this started back in 2011!!! yep! its taken a while to get her to a good stage. Still a few things to go, but I'd thought i'd share some pix

Image

As I mentioned, We (Dave - Bootlegger & I) started back in August 2011. The old girl had quite a bit of rust as you will see by the pix.

Heres a list of repairs done
- Rust
: Both Lf & Rght rear floor pans
: Both rear quater pannels
: Both front guards
: Rear screen

All rust repairs r done. & the paint job come up real nice. thanks Dave .. another great job

Next was the headlining
- New Headlining . The hardest part was trying to track down the original pattern headlining. But the good guys down at Super Trim Coburg were able to do it. Only thing was that it is in the grey. & they had to paint it the blue colour. but its come up pretty good.

- Front & Back seat re-trimmed along with new rear parcel shelf & New carpet.
I got Daniel from a stitch in time to do the interior... The end result specks for it self. Im so happy with it all. looks & feels like a new car. Daniel went out of his way to get the job done correctly. I would recommend him to anyone for sure.
The trouble with re trimming the seat was, trying to match the colour as close as possible to the original. & because the prem used a combination of leather tops & vinyl sides, trying to get the two to match was impossible. we ended up dying the hides & vinyl ourselves. I spent the whole day with daniel & then he spent another half day on it. we were really happy with the result & the manufacture of the dye guaranteed it wouldn't crack... but as Daniel started to cut & stitch, it started to crack... "angryy: "angryy: . we ended up getting our money back from the manufacture of the die, but we were back to square 1...Daniel had to clean the now cut hide & vinyl . We then we decided to get it professionally painted. that was nearly a year ago & its looking pretty good. so touch wood all the messing around paid off in the end. We also re-padded all the seats as the old foam was had it. Like i said, Im really happy with the way they turned out.

- heater repaired

- Re build new whipper washer motor

- Grill Assembly
: Removed the entire grill. It had heaps of surface rust on the inside. back to bare metal & the repainted.
: New grill blades. All the old grill blades had some or most of the tab broken & the were not sitting correctly. So & bought a new set. thinking yep they slide straight in & bobs your uncle. To my amazement, they didn't. Why o why???? It took me ages but I figured it out. The car must have been in an accident & received a hit on the front. As i could see the whole grill assembly was out of whack plus in the engine bay the was a little crease where you could tell it had been bent back... So after some encouragement by my sledge hammer, we got things back in place

Ok thats it for now. more pix & details to come. till then.

next was the engine bay.
It was pretty messy in there. But a good can or 2 of degreaser & a few hours got the job done. then a light sand & a repaint.... BEAUTIFUUUUUUL
the bonnet catch had 2 wrong screws in there, so I replace all 4 also put all new top grill & fender bolts too. Waiting for my air cleaner decal to turn up. Still have to do the engine block, but that will have to wait.
Remove & repainted the bonnet latch too

more to come....
