please help ASAP....

Post by mattymartin »

ok finished... well sort of

looks good,
Image

but, it just that when i had finished i went to put the battery leads back on and the engine started turning over, trying to start...

WHY...

i bet i has some thing to do with this...

the regulator... note the red wire
Image

i then brought the wires in side under dash and drilled a hole for the starter motor. the red wires came from the starter motor then went back under the dash somewhere... the other wires the black & the brown where dead wires wraped in tape (not connected to anything)...
Image

so i got told buy an autoelectrician to make a junction & join them then someone on the forum told me a junction just mean to connect... so i did
Image

also where do i get another one of these wires & what are they called...

thanks in advance

ps. rosco i havent read your other post yet, will get a chance later tonight

I'll print it for read'n in the dunny!

Mate the red wire has nothing to do with the starter. But that purple one to the starter solenoid does. Where and what have you done with the purple?

.....nad where have you joined in the brown that went to the regulator?

The engine bay looks heaps cleaner minus the wires. When are you going to remove that regulator? That bolt still won't budge?

Looking good mate !!!

If the engine is starting by itself as soon as you hook up the battery its probably this.

Off the back of the starter motor -

1. Lug/threaded bolt terminal
- Battery lead in
- potentially your alternator link cable for battery return charge.
2. Male spade terminal
- Ignition connection

I would check to ensure that there is no short between your ignition cable and battery terminal. If you have tightened the bolt too much without maintaining direction of the cables they may have bit across into the ignition terminal.

I dont understand what you mean by "I need to get another one of these wires" either mate , please elaborate, why, what for etc....

1. Lug/threaded bolt terminal (whats a lug/threaded bolt terminal)
- Battery lead in (battery lead in, where)
- potentially your alternator link cable for battery return charge. (is that this red one)

2. Male spade terminal (where)
- Ignition connection (where do i find this... under dash can you describe what it looks like, is it easy to identify)

I would check to ensure that there is no short between your ignition cable (which one is my ignition cable) and battery terminal. thanks for the speedy response smooth,

Mate the red wire has nothing to do with the starter. (sorry smooth but are you sure it doesnt, as its attached to it) But that purple one to the starter solenoid does. Where and what have you done with the purple?
(i have no idea, i'll check it out... but i havent changed the purple one at all)
Image

.....nad where have you joined in the brown that went to the regulator?
(nowhere as they did go anywhere before, check pic's)

regulator end of the wire
Image

the other end... you know, the one that (and i use the word losely) connects to something... (in the green circle)
Image

close up..
Image

so the brown & black wires from the regulator where just wraped up with the end of the wires ending up in tape with the blue one that goes INTO THE BACK OF THE ALTERNATOR... F@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@RK, I DID'T PLUG THAT BACK IN AFTER I PUT A NEW PLUG ON IT...
Image

could this be the reason...

When are you going to remove that regulator? That bolt still won't budge? (nup... & i even bought a new youbeaut screwdriver that when i bought it had me convinced that it would do the job)...i'm thinking of leaving it & asking the panelbeater to get it off...anglegrinder)

Ok mate in this pic you can see the lug/threaded bolt terminal of the starter motor and the male spade terminal. If they short across, it will sound like your key is constantly being turned, even if the engine is running.

If you tighten the nut too much on the starter motor ( which has the battery lead connection) and dont hold the cable in position , it can spin around as tightened and bite (notch itself) into the male spade terminal.

You mentioned that you arent sure where the purple wire was, if this is the cable which original went onto the male spade terminal ..... its possible you have joined this directly to a main power feed.

Dont worry about the alternator cable (potential battery return), people bridge this when they have the battery in the rear of the car and use the existing battery feed to the starter motor. You dont have this, so dont look at the alternator as the problem. The blue female spade connector will be probably your gen warning light which plugs into the male spade terminal on the alternator. Probably find now that your gen light is permentantly on. Plug the blue cable back on and it will go out.

Hey Matty, Have you got a wiring diagram. This would help greatly, not just for you but for us trying to figure which wires you've put where.

It is now obvious where you problem lies. You can allowing the starter main power wires touch the solenoid wire (Brown) or at least the terminal. Just make sure they are separated.

Forget all the other I have said because I couldn't see exactly what you had done.
