Advice sought for EK front quarter glass repair...

Post by Richard »

Hi all - I'm new to the forum, so still navigating around.

I am seeking:

- new front quarter glasses, left and right, with stainless steel surround (or just the stainless steel surrounds for my existing glass), locks etc. The replacement rubbers (and locks I think) only I can get from Rare Spares, but not the compete glass with the metal surround on the edge;
- reconditioned steering wheel with chrome/ stainless steel insert. I was wishing to find out if anyone has had positive experience with a baker-light steering wheel exchange service, as mine is needing replacing;
- correct repo spats, and all external (chrome) trim for a an EK sedan;
- windscreen wiper springs (stainless steel would be nice)

All feedback appreciated, kind regards - Richard

Rares do have the quarter glass assembly. Not cheap though

I recently got my spats from a mob in Qld. Quality was a bit disappointing

Thanks very much for that. I phoned Rares and they said my quarter glasses can't be accepted because they are rusted with pit holes and they offer an exchange only service.

They don't fabricate new stainless-steel glass surrounds to replace the chromed steel, so that the rusting won't happen again.

So I'm still searching for leads for a business who might do this (economically), if anyone has any suggestions.

Also, that's unfortunate about the spats Cal, were they plastic ? If anyone has had satisfactory experience or suggestions for replica spats, that would be great.

Kind regards - Richard

They're steel spats. They do need a fair bit of reworking prior to panting, like bogging over the spot welds and tapping out small dents. Overall not too bad, though I was expecting better quality.

With the quarter glass, your best bet might be to buy a complete door, where the door itself might be in poor condition, but the quarter glass assembly might be in good condition

They usually turn up n ebay. Replacing the rubbers is pretty straight forward if you know what you are doing.

Thanks all.

re stainless steel quarter glass surround: I'll get them made up by a stainless steel boiler-maker; in the meantime I'll keep looking on here to see if anyone else has done this.

I'd prefer not to wreck one car for another, as all vintage cars are getting more and more scarce. There are engineers and panel experts (e.g. Ozrods) who can build various parts replicas, without sacrificing another vehicle in the process.

re spats: I'll get these through Rare Spare/ Ebay as suggested

Kind regards - Richard

nb - all comments/ any further comments and leads appreciated

What external chrome trim are you after? I'll have a fair bit of FB/EK stuff at Queanbeyan swap meet this weekend.

Sam and Mangus - thank you both for your replies.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner - end of year is usually a hectic time! lol

Sam: front quarter glasses, left side and right side, do you have any at Queanbeyan still. And if so, how do I get in contact with you.

Kind regards - Richard
