hi everyone ok im putting a 465 holley on my 179 and the bloke that is going to do the work on my car thinks im an idiot if i run a cable accelerator and that i should run the rod system still. anyone here had any problems with the cable setup i thought a cable might look neater i dont claim to be a mechanic but he pretty much goes against everything i have ideas to do ,makes me feel stupid he didnt even want me to run a holley claims they are shit

Anyone that thinks change is a bad thing is a dickhead. My best friend is an angle grinder.

I had a 465 holley on a worked red motor and it flew like a shower of shit.

People who say Holley's are shit or Weber's are shit (whatever brand) say it because they can't tune them because "they" are not capable.

This is only a reflection on themselves. Find someone else and tell this bloke to go back to working on Nissan's.

the thing is this guy is one switched on dude and builds awsome chev motors ,and is a holden guy through and through and a drag racer i like to listen and take advice for sure but i think he is just really set in his ways .he's actually a real top bloke thats the problem i think

Troy your right about the mechanic he is very cluey and a top fellow but it is your car after all and you are paying him,advice is ok but make sure you get what you want!

as everbody else said why the hell would someone recomend you keep all that crappy linkage when you can have smooth trouble free cable, other than restorers and then they don't care how slow there car is anyway

Go the Holley .. make sure it is a new one. around $330.. Dont need a 465 unless there is a bit of a cam and work done to the head to swallow the extra fuel 8)
Go the cable - VC commy cable with torana pedal mechanism
Only thing he will have to use his brain for is the forked bracket to hold the cable outer. Can buy 'em to suit holleys at rare spares or off ebay.

Look forward to better throttle response and a smoother throttle under your foot

Im running a recond 465 holley and a mitsi L300 acc cable - never looked back :D
and always get a second opinion :wink:

oh well guys the old girl is heading back into storage again next week. shes leaving the guys house that was going to do the work headed for my mums house till mine is finished but i have more reasons now the house costs are starting to blowout just got a bill for extra 5 grand . not happy jan

With your 465 Holley, have you done any head work to the motor to accept the extra fuel from the holley?

I have been told by an ex- mechanic mate, that the 465 Holley may flood my motor???

I am keen to know whether you do get more noticeable performance with the 465???

I have had a few red motors of varying capacity 179, 186 and 202. all have been stock and run happily with a 350 Holley.
Just dont stuff about with a cheap second hand bargain yopu pick up at a swap meet or on ebay.
9 times out of 10 they are for sale because they are worn out/ rooted and will be a pig to set up and keep in tune..

Get a new or reco carb and save yourself the misery

I have seen 465 and 500 Holleys on 253 and 302 V8s. Thats why i mentioned that they would be Ok on a 6 with a big cam and plenty of head work. There is no point in bunging on a big carb and trying to jet it down so it will run efficiently on a small unmodified 6

Reddo's comment is pretty well right.

465 holley would need some good mods on the motor to take best advantage of the 465 cfm flow.

In a lot of cases bigger isn't always better.

Most blokes in my days would use 350 holleys on standard or warm motors.I only ever knew blokes to run 465's on big mod motors with good breathing ability.

EG XU1 LJ Bathurst cam spec,stage 3 or above head,tuned length extractors,modified ignition, internal mods etc, etc , etc.

The 465's run well when in good tuned condition on the right motor.

And like reddo said, a new or professionally rebuilt carb is best.Saves a lot of potential heartache.

I'd go with the cable over linkage if you can.

Less freeplay in the throttle system with cable as opposed to linkage I reckon.

This is only my opinion, others may think differently.

Good luck with whatever carb/throttle control system you use.

After all, its your car, your money and you are the only one who has to be happy with it.
