Hey guys looking to install some stereo components in my fb. Part of the install requires mounting some 6" splits in the front of the car, and the depth of the speakers in 60.5mm. Has anyone successfully decked out their fb sedan with such deep speakers in the front? anyone got pics? I was hoping to mount them in the kick panels, but i yanked one off to find solid metal:( maybe i will just mount them in some massive fiberglass pods down there:) What do you guys think? the car already has 4 6" speakers in it from the previous owner as well as a 10stacker and tape deck in the glovebox. I plan to replace the rear 6" speakers with some pioneer yellow cone 6x9's. our ek has 6x9's in it so i know they fit, but any info on the frnt speakers would be greatly appreciated
I plan on doing the same sought of thing sometime in the near future, except ill probably make my own pods down in the kick panel, the one thing you have to remember is that it NEEDS to be out of the way of the pedals, otherwise its just not worth it, another thing ive seen people do is actually make a hole in the metal and basically just make space for the speaker (basically a pod on the outside under the gaurds but sealed). When your talking about speakers here your starting to scare me, make sure all your speakers are the same brand and series, for example if your fronts are Pioneer Yellow speakers (made from Kevlar, a very good speaker, but personally id go Alpine) you will need to use the Pioneer yellow speaker 6x9s in the back, if you use different brand/series speakers you will get bad quality sound as the different brands will play slightly out of sink with eachother. Use whatever sub you want, basically the more you spend the better you will get (i suggest if you want big bass get the Kicker L7), and if your stuck for space use the new Pioneer shallow sub and mount it wherever. Amp... whatever brand as long as its well known (so not ebay no name crap) and with the head deck its a personal choice, again id go alpine.
One thing i cannot stress enough is use QUALITY wiring, like Stinger and if your running an amp use THICK wiring for the + and - power and use the same gauage (thickness). Run the power wire from the battery (no where else), and put the fuse as close to the battery as humanly possible.
I dont mean to sound up myself but when it comes to car audio i know a hell of a lot, if any one wants some help or anything PM me.
Hi Alex, i will be running yellowcones all round'. I chose them due to sound quality and because they will match my paint, or should i say rust:) amp was intended to be a soundstream reference, but i think i have been stung. i payed for it on ebay and now the guy is no longer registered and not replying to calls/ emails
when i read this post i thought... i've got a pic some where that i took of where i wanted my speakers to go & they where hidden...
alex... is this what you mean when you say that you can cut a hole out of the metal & sit the speaker in it...
myt question, is will the back of the speake get damaged or if a pod is enough can you explain what a pod is & where i find them... as i will definatley want my speakers up where these ones are... hidden
yeah thats one of the places you could cut them. you WILL need a pod on the back otherwise the speakers will get ruined and quick. in terms of where to get them, you would need to make your own, either out of fibreglass (read up on it, there is stuff all over the net, or make something out of metal (basically a cylinder closed at one end). the pods i was talking about with andrew go on the inside of the car:
^^^ thats obviously not an ek, but hopefully you get my drift, you can also get more pretty ones.
I ran splits in my FC in custom Kick panels, which by chance fit in the EK. Its on the joblist now. But alex is right, look at jaycar (on the WEB) or JB hifi etc.. for speaker pods as you can mininmize the amount of cutting.
I'll echo Alex's comments on wire. I ran a full Kicker sytems through a pioneer head unit through 8 crossovers and 2 100 watt RMS amps driving 2 10" subs, a pair of 6x9's, a pair of rear mids and splits in the front. The sound was awesome and the wiring alone was enough to make you think twice, but well worth it in the end.
Another option instead of the fuse is to use one of Stinger's circuit breaker, handy for deterring the monkeys who occasionly did work on my car. I trip the breaker as I leave the car there so as not to have any damage done as for some reason they all play around with the stereo, to the point the last place told me something must be wrong. I just said no I disable the system so clowns like you don't break anything!
Car audio is fun, but very expensive!!!!
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.
I used small stainless steel mixing bowls behind my speakers, sealed with silicone
im running 1" spacers - and as you can see from the pic above, the speaker covers are pretty chunky too
Ive made thinner kick boards now also, plenty of room between accelerator pedal and speaker - a good 5cm
hahahahahahahaha, thats pure aussie thinking mate... mixxing bowls, it cracks me up just thinking about it. the funny thing is when i think about it logically its actually the perfect kind of shape you want for a speaker container. my hat goes off to you
shhh....... dont tell the missus I nicked here bowls - just kidding, I used hers to see what size I needed-then bought a couple
they do the trick and wont rust
will put some pics up when I get batteries
Mixing bowls? nice lateral thinking, We used half chinese takeaway round containers on the backs of my speakers in the door to keep the water off!
Cheers Theo Z.,
Watch for the early bird, He might be just getting home.
