ignition key

Post by retro-richard »

Hi Folks.I have got a mate who recently purchased an FB from interstate. As a result he has to have a full government inspection. He did this last week and one of the things that they picked on was that "ignition key to be retained in on position."Basically I think this means that they don't want the key to come out while driving.spoke to a older lock smith and he says this is normal untill steering ignition locks were introduced any ideas on this?

who ever did the inspection is a dope that rule only applies to cars with an ignition steering lock ie: HQ's etc so you can't remove key then turn ignition off and lock steering
they think we are as stupid as they are
these dopes tell us what and how our cars should be    :x

Knob Jockey's!

What Ratbox said is 100% correct. The key must not be able to removed on a car with a steering lock whilst in the "on" position. Because removing it engages the steering lock. (Not so great at 100MPH with a corner coming up!)

Who ever told you that is the rule for a FB is an oxygen thief.

there you go! wanna no who a Dick head is, the same bloke that inspected Retro Richards Mates car.
When are these so called know all's gonna read the rules and interpret the rules correctly, if they can't do it, hand in there Kellogs licences and friggen let properly trained inspectors handle it. All ther doin is pissin everyone off with there non know all attitudes. That is just so so frustrating.

Mate, back in the late '70's in the country towns it was not uncommon for cars to be parked in the town centres - windows down and ignition switch in the off position. No sign of keys! didn't need 'em - why would you? Nobody locked their car and Holden's didn't need keys to start 'em. Most people didn't even know where they were, because they were never used.

In Mildura at fruit picking time, the local radio 3MA and television Sunraysia 8&10 use to run ads warning locals to lock their cars because of the non locals coming into town to gain employment.

Some of these fruit properties were well out of town and these pickers would "borrow" a car to get there.

I'll never forget my first Christmas at Mildura. Cars would be parked in the main streets full to the brim with presents and gifts, not an owner to be seen and every window down. Something this city slicker had never seen before. (Bet these days are dead now)

Yep, those days are gone now smooth.

Gotta lock everything up now even in the quietest of country towns.

Trust no one.
