Our Mount Gambier 2012 Nationals - Pics and Video

Post by parisian62 »

We had a fantastic time at the 2012 Mount Gambier Nationals. Here is our adventure...

All packed and ready to go on the Tuesday afternoon.
Image

On our way west we drove through a massive storm front coming into Sydney. It's one of the few times I have been genuinely concerned about driving. The 100 plus winds pushed us into the overtaking lane. Thank goodness for vaccuum wipers!
Image

We finally drove through the storm and were greeted by some spectacular sunsets.
Image

At Gundagai for the night. When I pulled up at the reception I could hear a very loud clicking noise coming from the engine...not good.
Image

Wednesday morning it took me the best part of half an hour to start the FB... It was good driving but we were losing power on the hills.
Image

Crossing the border into Mexico...
Image

We stopped to drop off some fruit and clicking noise was worse and very hard to start.... :x
Image

We had to stop at Wadonga for fuel and at every intersection, roundabout, lights etc we stalled...

On the run into Shepparton I had the foot on the floor doing just on 60mph...
Image

Party's over... In Shepparton and she just wouldn't go any futher...
Image

After I checked her over and advanced the timing I did whatever good mechanic with my years of experience would do...pulled out the NRMA Premium cover. Fantastic service. The FB was stored at Shepparton Holden and we picked up a SV6 and were on our way in about 3 hours... :D

We spent the best part of Thursday at Ballarat and took the kids to Sovereign Hill. We had a ball there and experienced the thrill of finding gold!

We arrived home on the Friday and on Saturday the FB arrived home...

Image

It had some company... 8)

Armed with a new level of 'have a go' and bootlegger on the other end of the phone I removed the radiator, removed the harmonic balancer and timing cover to find a loose crank gear...time for a new crank. The plan is to pull the engine out and rebuild at my place with Dave's help...best way to learn... 8)
Image

This will sound weird but this has to be the best trophy I have ever won! :D

Yeah he wasn't wearing one of the official Nats lanyards...he could've been anyone...

I think the whole family will remeber the trip... :) That's the plan Tim and also will get the head converted to unleaded too.
