Proposed Brake Set-up

Post by Mephious »

Gday guys,

This is my proposed brake set-up for the EK Sedan. Not sure if anyone has messed around with pumps and vacuum tanks before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated if things look wrong or a better solution is possible.

HQ Master Cylinder
HQ Portioning Valve.
Pump/Remote booster in boot
Vacuum Res/Booster under front guards.

Mephious, sounds like a lot of expense for an average brake set up.

Much more simpler to run a Mazda Brake booster and dual circuit master cylinder mounted on the firewall. Or Gemini with XA/XB master.

I hear ya John !!!

My concern thou is I wont have the room for a firewall mounted booster if I need to adjust the roller rockers. Theres roughly two inches off the firewall before the head covers.

Never done a set-up like this before , so im not sure if its better to have the vacuum tank at the end of the run , or at the start of the run. Logically I am presuming the end of the run , so the pump doesnt believe the vacuum level is correct if the tank fills up first ?

Also presuming the tank at the end will have reserves for the front booster after having to brake if the pump needs to "catch up" with pressure.

Not 100% sure just guestimating.

Unless the engineer has specifically asked for it do you really need the booster? If I get time and can find them I'll post some pics of my mates EK, 600+hp unboosted brakes fully engineer approved. It may not be tonight but in the next few days.

Sounds good Devilrod, would be greatful for it mate.

Throwing the boosters more for my sake mate , worried the thing wont pull up and this looks to be the only option for the remotes. I know the vacuum will be a prob as the block wont have much vacuum due to the cam and the blower.

You'd be surpised at how well the system works in his EK. It and a HK running a similar setup left the engineer speechless after the brake test and also opened his eyes a bit. I haven't had the pleasure of driving this but his missus handles the car with ease and she is only a little lass......

One thing he has done I know for sure is lengthen the brake pedal arm. Requires less effort to push, basic phsyics...
