which way do the rubbers go
hey guys i feel i bit dumb asking this but the inner door rubbers .whats the best glue to useand do they go on with the valley type part facing towards the inside of the door opening or do they face towards the outer side of the opening. they seem to want to form better facing inwards but it just dont look right to me. looks neater with the nice solid rolled edge showing as you open the door instead of seeing the v section. (sorry for the bad description but its a bit hard to explain without a pic and i cant do pics. cheers wayne

Hi Wayne,
I didn't see anyone answer you question regarding which adhesive to use.....?
Rares supplied my rubber kit - and told me to use Loctite 424..... not a continuous bead, but in enough places to hold it. I also removed the waxy film/release agent from the hidden adhesive areas of my rubbers before fitting them
The inner rubbers were pretty easy - they are held in by channels for most of the way - and "disappear" into the scuff plates...... I used very little 424 on those, just enough to "tack" them in place.
With the outer door rubbers, a continuous bead should be used along the scuff plate - or people will drag it out with their shoes......
The dog-leg concave curve is probably the hardest one to set - I vaguely remember having at least two goes on the first door at that before I was "happy".
I also used "Rubber Magic" aerosol to "condition" the rubber after fitting - it seemed to allow/direct the rubbers to settle in better.... but they will take a L-O-N-G time before you can finger close your doors again..... dont' forget to check your door stop rubbers as well..... they have probably compressed or shrinked....
For anyone about/considering replacing outer door rubbers on sedans/wagons - they are supplied in a generous continuous length...... start your fitting at the top pillar corner - and finish there. I don't know the procedure for utes or p/vans - they are rounded at that location
Be careful with that 424 - it is extremely aggressive.... and will adhere to the rubber so well that you will most likely rip it trying to break the joint.... paint usually gives way first...... keep 424 upright and in the back of your refrigerator.....in a very secure container!
Nice pix/cars, Steve - we wouldn't expect any less of your collection..... legend!
frats,
Rosco
