I'm Wayne and just returned from South Australia with a 1961 FB.
Some may have seen it for sale on Gumtree.
I have some pics and a story for ya so don't go away!
Back in 1968 when I was 18 my dear old dad brought me a 1959 FB
This thing was so cool I polished it every Saturday afternoon and my mates and I
would go chasing girls on Saturday night!
Being the first in my friendship circle to own a car the boys christened her
the "Cherry Picker" for obvious reasons.
If you don't know what I'm talking about your too young and need to ask your grandfather what that means.
Here's a pic. I'm in the middle.

I've done some dumb things in my life but what I did to my FB was plain stupid.
But you live and learn I guess.
The old 138 was near expired and my dad came home one night and told me a mate of his, son was throwing a 307 into his EH panel van
and would I like the 149. What, you need an answer!
So we went and picked it up in a box trailer and spent the weekend swaping it over.
Block and tackle and a big gumtree in the back yard which come in handy.
Ran well for a few months then one afternoon on my way home from my girlfriends place
I was travelling up Heathcote Road (anyone local would know it)
My feet were getting very bloody hot!
I felt down and near burnt my hand.
I first thought the heater was stuck on then I noticed the bonnet started to blister!
I quickly pulled over, opend the bonnet and was meet with flames
I didn't have anything to put it out so I had to throw dirt on it.
Some guy pulled up who had a fire extin..thingy and put it out for me.
He happened to be a mechanic from the Shell garage at the top of Heathcote Road.
He looked at it and told me that the driver side fork had givin way.
The power of the 149 had found the weak spot..rust!
This had twisted the motor around a split the fuel line, well you can guess the rest.
So my FB was towed away for scrap.
Anyway enjoy some pics we took last Monday and Tuesday.
This is leaving Elizabeth on Tuesday Moring

Whats between Mildura and Hay.."F**k All Your Honor"!
Just spinafex, scrub and suicidal parrots.
Because it was getting near twilight on the way home
our biggest worry was kangaroos and emus.
Glad our transit has a big bullbar.

Arriving home

Various shot of the FB

The strip on the dashboard is very clean and with all the stars.

She starts and runs, I drove her on and off the trailer.

Parts Galore have been collected which make my job easier.

Electric windscreen wiper?

For Steve the plate..I'll put it the right forum.
My first one was built at Pagewood this one in Adelaide.

Body number

The only book missing is the service book.

I don't have any colour photographs of my FB but It was green with a white wing.
I would like to ask if someone might post a link to a Belmont Green with a white wing
and a Colleen green with a white wing so I can see the difference.
I think mine was Belmont Green with a white wing but afer all this time
they look the same.
Anyway she is in the garage for a while till I do a few things for the wife!
Regards
Wayne
