removing paint from door trims

The previous owner painted the whole ute with a spray can, the door trims even though a lot of sedan stuff has been fitted it looked to have been the original door ute trims too!

Hmmm... it will be touch and go wether you end up pulling the colour out of the trim... slowly, gently, start in a small spot at an edge. If it goes wrong, you can always respray them.
a) handcleaner (go gently if it has pumice in it),
b) prepsol (wax and grease remover)... tougher than handcleaner, but not as tough as
c) paint thinners

Thanks Harv I'll give it go and let you know how I go, if possible I don't want to be replacing the door trim just cause some idiot decided to go overboard with paint

I'm right in the middle of cleaning up my door trims as I type...all on the kitchen table

Another suggestion is 'Chux magic erasers'. youll find them in the cleaning aisle of woolies, coles etc. Little white sponge blocks - 8 to a pack - amazing results!

Gotta laugh... kitchen table . I've given up on the number of new shirts I own that have grease on them (...even have a pair of dress shoes with epoxy enamel overspray).

I tried the Magic Erasers after Matty Martin had luck with them. Did the FB door trims over, but couldn't see any difference. The trims were OK, just a fair bit of ground in grime. Gave them a clean first in soapy water, then dipped the Eraser in water. Squeezed it out, then rubbed it over a few times... no luck. Tried rubbing it round harder in little circles, still no luck. Ended up going back to the soapy water and a nailbrush/elbow grease - came up OK. Is there something I'm doing wrong with the Erasers?

I got the worst of the grime off with sunlight soap, warm water and a chux/wetex cloth. Then I used the erasers. They really brought out the colour in the trims.

You are using the erasers right. Maybe give the erasers a bit more time/pressure to work their magic.

My wife watched me scrubbing some old seats in a HR and put me on to marble paste, it's the consistency of boot polish and you add water to it as you go.
It's brilliant

hey guys I hated to do it but ended up having to use a paint remover to strip the spray paint off got most of it off but not all I think I'll have to hit it with a proper vinyl paint to get its proper colour back

Yes, there is a way, carefully
The vinyl is "welded" to the boards through the patterns on the face, then glued over the edges.

A paint scraper may help but your best tool will be patience if you want re-use the vinyl.
Holden used some "fluffy shit" between the vinyl and the cards for padding rather than foam that makes the job a messy one.
I can supply new cards in an original style cardboard if you need them, $25 a pop plus $20 odd postage. Daleys (http://www.daleys.com.au) is the place for some 3mm foam and spray adhesive.
