SunnyTim wrote:The heavy duty radiator is exactly the same as an EK automatic radiator, it just doesn't have the automatic cooler in the bottom tank. I have only seen 10 or 20 heavy duty radiators fitted in cars over the years they are quite rare. It would be easier to have a radiator guy convert an auto one (just have to take out the cooler from the bottom tank and braize up the two holes)
If you have read the service bulletin then you will also be aware that you need to cut out the front subframe skirts (on either side of the radiator) to install the larger radiator - the holes are already in the top support bar)

Thanks Tim.
Yeh I was aware of the options. I have to repair my front sunbrame as it has been severly chopped out in the past. In my searches I managed to pick up a NOS radiator support panel for a EK auto which I intend to fit. My intent was to fit the heavy duty radiator but my preference was to fit a manual one less the cooler which will give a little more coolant capacity. My problem is I dont have the square type heavy duty radiator and dont want aftermarket as I'm trying to keep originality.
If I can get an auto one, that will do to.
Thanks for the advice.

Thanks Harry. I'm definitley interested if you want to part with it. Could you send me a pic or two of it when you get a chance.
Cheers

Hey Craig
Can you post a copy of the bulletin pic

I have a couple here...but they have different mountings

One has the mounting holes 380 apart approx 60mm further than a stock one

The other has three mounting holes on a plate on each side with the top and bottom holes being 380mm apart

They have the same part number on the top tank as a stock one 74098738

I was going to put the NOS one on my ute when I restore it next year

However I have not tried to mount it and after reading the post for fitting I will see how I go

Cheers Gary

G'day Gary,
The larger radiator looks like it's for a FX or FJ :ewink:

Thanks for the pics Gary,
I forgot to mention that the EK Auto/Heavy duty manual radiator has square/flat type top header tank with the inlet offset to the left hand side. The bulletins dont show actual radiator dimension but do suggest an actual wider width of 1.80" (.90" further out when drilling new mountings).
Cheers
Craig.
