Camira Power Steering Rack to HR Front end

Post by ek wazza »

I was told recently that you can use a holden camira power steering rack which can be fitted to a hr front end without too much hassle...has anyone ever done this or heard of it being done and does anyone have pics??????

 It must be something that has been done before by someone ,somewhere ,as an engineer I spoke to in Dubbo a couple of years back was waffling on about fitting a Camira Blah Blah Balh Power Steering rack to a HR Front end.

I guess he must have passed an early holden with one of these in it to know that it would fit .
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

i have heard it before don't know where, there was an EK on ebay a while back that said it had a suzuki power rack on it
in a way a rack is a rack have a look and do some measuring of the HR front and go scouting around the wreckers
there's another but could be hard to find TC/TD cortina as they used to convert these to put power steer on LH/LX toranas
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping

Camira racks are a strange looking thing - and could be adapted to pretty much any front end as the tie rods are positioned next to each other rather than at the end of the rack like a commodore , etc - therefore bump steer is minimised as long as you mount it in the right spot.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Blacky give Blacks Racks in Margaret River? a call as I think they have this one sorted other than that go and see Hank Robertson at Street Rod Services in Rockingham as he has used them in a few Rods, Surlys has one I think, it's no good ringing him as he is deaf as a post

The racks that Blacks Racks use are similar to Camira ones but he buys them new in the US.

The Camira racks are classed as a centre steer rack and are very easy to modify to fit
