Yeah I think that is it , if you are doing a full on resto , its the little bits that are hard to find ,badges ,trim bits etc , and everybody thinks they are worth a million dollars now :( , me I am happy just to get one on the road , if the little bits fall into my lap I will grab them but I would rather pay $400 for a radio that I can hear stuff on and play some good sounding music on , while going on a cruise with the family , all singing and enjoying ourselves  , but that's me , please don't take this comment the wrong way , if you want a period correct car , and that's what your into ,do it , it is your car after all .

OK , back to the heap

Spent most of today with my head up under the dash , she now has a steering column , pedal box , brake pedal and booster :D also sorted out the 2 speed wiper issue , but I still have a gazillion wires to sort out .

Went to town this arvo to get some gear to hopefully get rid of some of these wires over the weekend , got a new coil ,a new switch for the wipers , a couple of thermo fans , Supercheap has got buy one get the second one free at the moment if anybody needs some , the starter motor is painted ready to bolt in , heater and fan is in , hopefully that will get rid of a few wires for me

it is just as big a pain in the arse trying to track down all the correct bits as it is making the "wrong" bits fit
how is it :? i've thrown away all the stock stuff (cause nobody seems to want it  ) besides the 2 door conversion if i wanted to run grey motor running gear i could have had it 10 times over, might be a little harder if you were doing a pedantic resto and want correct part No's and new old stock etc, but if yor doing what i think rusty is talking about grey motor (doesn't have to be corect for EK) 3 speed stock front end seats diff etc after doing what he has just done with the ute he'll do the sedan standing on his head
Theres a big difference between properly restoring a car and just putting one together with a grey motor in it
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

G,day All

Small update on the old girl while I am sitting down having lunch , give me an excuse to use the new smiley s

Has been all fiddly little stuff the last couple of weeks , soldering wires mostly , have got the majority of the wiring done , engine is all wired as well as 99% of the dash , just got the front and rear lights and doors to do really and a few little bits here and there .

Image

Also have been cleaning and painting all the remaining little pieces for the front suspension , is surprising how many hours gets sucked up in these little bits .

Got all the front suspension re bushed and back in , will get the shocks and sway bar etc fitted during the week hopefully , have to chase down some new discs and brake bits to finish it off .

Got the radiator in and the thermo s mounted and chased down the top and bottom hoses , used a HQ 253/308 top hose and a Commodore 253/308 bottom hose , had to cut about 50mm off them to fit nice , because this thing is sitting a lot closer to the radiator than normal , thought they might of been a pain to find but worked out pretty well , just bent a bit of wire to the shape I needed and took that with me and tried it on a few different hoses

Image

After my slight hiccup with the top wish bones they went back in pretty easy , just made a timber spacer to go between them and the main section to stop it from bending in and cut a piece of pipe the right length and diameter to go over the bush and just wound them back in with the nuts that hold it all together, take the nut back off , take out the bit of pipe and put it all back together , same with other side , all done :D

Greg if your tuned in , the bushes look like they are going to work a treat , they give you quite a good range of adjusting

But now for the sad bit :( am going to have to get back on to the rust chasing again on the weekend and finish off all the hanging panels , bugger :(

Thanks ekute62

G,day Stewart , how you going with your bodywork ? Thought holy cow when I first put the wires in , but wasn't too bad the kit was well marked and pretty easy to use , could end in a fireball though

As for the rust I just keep telling myself 2 doors , 1 bonnet and 1 guard and its done . Oh happy days
