But bugger me, $45 to park in a dusty field all day is pretty steep

The price aint too bad, as you do get the showbag with the customary t shirt, coffee mug, and some other stuff.
This is one show I do enjoy more as a spectator than an entrant.

It's just might be the way I am but I like to get in early, suss stuff out and leave when I want
Generally leaving before the mass exodus is easier too
And last year was no dusty paddock! Swamp was more like it!!!
