Paint codes & tailgates skins(& hillbilly music)

Post by buddynubb »

Hi Guys can anyone tell me which is the best tailgate skin to use?the $ 99 one listed on ebay looks to come from a guy that makes a heap of panels so it should be Ok quality,I have heard some are poor quality in the way they fit???
and does anyone have a paint code for clinker grey thats used in the engine bay?/....and while we are at it...does a paint code exist for the "grey" motor grey or is there a close pressure pack availible??
As low as you can get em with rag tyres, primer & dirty big cams!Perfect.

I took the flywheel cover off my engine and the paint shop matched it for engine enamel. If you arent too fussy about getting the colour exactly right for your car ( and the colour seemed to change a fair bit between different plants ) then you can hit it with a rattle can of Power Plus engine enamel - colour number PP427.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Hi Keiran 585-9963 (Clinker Grey)

You would need to add some flattening agent to the paint to dull it off.

If you go to samprinci link restoring his fb ute there is a series of pics repairing the tailgat with a new skin.
I used one of those 99 dollar ones. They are straight and the tailgate has a slight curve in it. It was a lot of work to make it fit if you want it right. Unless you can find a genuine nos one they are all the same. Dave 0413766507

Its heaps more than fours hours to fit the skin. The upside is once the skin is off you can fix the frame.

Yeah cheers bootlegger, the outers fine & the dent would repair, but like you say the inners a little woofy,I checked on samprincis tailgate log, mine pretty similar,my main worry was the quality of fit with repo skin.My panel guy had a nightmare fitting a rares HR tailgate skin,It wasnt even vaguley similar......He just came good from the foetal position!

Yeah they don't fit well. I think apart from having to put cut it to get the curve it was also ten mm too long so I had to flatten the bottom out and re fold it. Then I had to make it fit the sides.
I reckon including fixing the frame, in spray putty it was around two full days work and I mean full days.
