Drum brake repair in Melbourne

Post by RedWhiteFB »

Howdy all,
I've finally got my FB back on the road - it was sheer heaven on the weekend. The sun was out, I was out cruising in the FB, life was perfect... almost. The braking ability of the car leaves a little to be desired. Can anyone recommend someone in Melbourne who's good with drum brakes. As long as I leave plenty of space between me and the car in front, I can pull up ok. However, if something unexpected happened, there could be trouble. I wouldn't mind getting some sort of booster fitted at the same time. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Regards,
Aaron.

I recommend andrew from
Werribee Brake & Clutch. 0418 513 788 . Been using hime for over 10 years
He's an expert on any type of brake. Mobile service - he comes to you.
Had my '59 desoto's brakes working great and fixed my holden's brakes.
Cheers
Paul

Better Brakes in Bayswater were able to identify that the change over rear shoes were from a HR rear end not an EK, now that was a surprise for me as i didn't realise that i had a HR rear end !

that to me shows that they have some idea of what they are talking about

and only $37 for the complete set

Melbourne's fairly big, wanna be a bit more specific? Or are you willing to go anywhere?

Also with drums you need to adjust them on a regular basis and you'll find they work pretty good (well for drums anyway).
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

Devilrod is right, thery might just simply need an adjustment.

I had mine out for a drive to the Blue Mountains on the weekend, with some pretty hairy looking hills along the way . No drama with standard drum brakes. If you drive the car with it's cababilities the standard brakes are more than capable.

Thanks for those suggestions. I've tried adjusting them and as I said, if I'm sensible, they're not too bad. But if I had to stop in a hurry, I'd be in trouble.
I'm in Ashburton - so anyone South East would be great - but I'm not really fussed. The further away they are, the more I get to cruise!
Are the boosters for these reasonably easy to get? And what sort of price should I expect to pay for the booster? And do they make enough of a difference to warrant getting one?

Thanks,
Aaron.

The main advantages of the booster is easier pedal pressure, plus you won't need to adjust the brakes.

I'm not too sure it wil make any difference to the braking performance though
