Hey guys, So im back after making a move to Melbourne. It was a drama and took me a while to find somewhere to store my car so i could work on it but i never gave up! At the moment its in a cozy garage in Lower plenty. Ive done some work and will take pictures today. Just a quick question though: To take the doors off, do i take them off the hinge to the hinge off the Chassis?

Leave the hinge on the car mate , heaps easier. If you are doing it yourself , close the door , remove all the bolts (dont forget the ones behind the door trim ) then climb out the other side , open the door and slide it off the hinges - pieca cake :D
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Followed your advice Blacky and it was as you said it was, a piece of cake. However for the two back doors its a little different. I could remove the doors by unscrewing the three Phillips head screws or there are three hard to get to 1/2" bolts. Which ones should i go for? I also managed to get the bonnet off.

This is my niece helping me out.

Mick, Just done this to mine. The rears I took from the 1/2 inch bolts, Theory being that they should bolt back on without to much mucking around aligning them.

Hey guys,
Im a little stumped with taking this thing apart.
the chrome trim along the windscreens seems to be stuck and i dont really want to damage it taking it out.
A mate suggested getting a heat gun adn loosening up some ofthe plastic seal. The front guards are giving me a bit of grief too, any tips?

Also im torn whether to put a 202 in my FB or keep it as a Grey. I would like some power in it as it will be a daily driver going up hills and the such.

Either that or a 5l with a gearbox that i have lying around.

Don't try and take the strip off the window with it still in the car, they come out with the screen then get removed.

The front guards have 3 bolts on the inside, you get to them by removing the kick panel in the foot well, 2 under the rear of the guard and the rest run along the top.

You should get a manual :wink: .

Red or Grey, I just made this choice the expensive way, I had a grey recoed for my daly driver and 6 months later pulled it out and put in a red motor. I thought the grey would be fine (never owning one before), and it was but there was a nagging in the back of my head that I had just spent over $3000 on this grey motor and I guess I was a bit nervous about giving it too much of a boot full and wrecking it, where as with the red if I blow that I will just buy another one for $200 easy.
If the car was a weekend or once a month car I would have kept the grey but it is a genuine daly driver.

You'll hate my response then...I drive my Grey every day and don't even think about it exploding on me. And I'm not talking driving it at 60k's everywhere either...As soon as I hit the highway (which is about 100meters away from home) it's 100k's for about 10k's then a small bit at 80k's then back to 100k's right into Burrill Lake and down to 60 & 80K's into Ulladulla. This drive is about 20k's each way and I do it every week. :wink: Nothing wrong with the Grey as long as you warm it up and give it a regular oil change (do mine every 3000 mile's ..on the speedo)..great little engine and with a 2" system & extractors makes a wonderful note to boot. 8) 8) 8)

Hmmmm I'm on the fence having had both. My old EK used to be a grey which I hurt (bottom end) within a month of owning it. I then rebuilt the grey and it ran flawlessly for over a year till I sold it. The guy who bought it then loaded what little belongings he had in it and drove to Qld. Never missed a beat.

Now I have a red which other than a leaky rear main just keeps on going and going and going. Uses bugger all fuel and has a little bit of go to boot.... Well compared to the stock grey.

So I guess it's upto you. Grey's are slightly higher maintenance but if treated right will match a red in reliability but not in horsepower :mrgreen:

I make no secret about my grey motor preference, mind you I started stockpiling spare heads,blocks,cranks etc. a while back :wink: with a few mods they are reliable and with the right diff ratio will cruise at highway speed with all the other traffic all day long. :D :D :D

Well I think i have decided on sleping on it that i will keep they grey. Im also thinking while i have this girl stripped i should install a strengthening kit for Ron (Later on).If im keeping the grey do i still have to install Disk breaks and the rest of those mods?

Mick, My grey goes HARD, I don't maintaine as much as I should(Just fix whats needed to keep me going) I bought this grey from a guy who used it as a daily in his FE, He couldn't deal with the high revs on the highway so he changed it for a RED. 500 bucks for the grey, front end and gearbox. Has run without much fault since and I drive like a maniac!!! But my Wagoon has a RED and AUTO so life is much easier in bumper to bumper traffic BUT I love the grey and I'll drive it till it blows up then put another in.
You don't have to run the disc front with the grey, But if your thinking about red down the track, it might pay to install it while building The engine mounts will not be needed with the grey. All strengthing kits can be installed as well for Ron.
Hope you got ya doors sorted. Also pop ya windscreen first then remove the rubber then the stainless strip. If ya rubber is good and will be reinstalled, I wouldn't remove the strips.
