Fuel guage Full all the time

Post by Squirralien »

I know this sounds like a great problem to have but the problem is even with a low level of fuel the gauge goes directly to full, I read the topic on the gauge not registering much and the repair, could it be the same problem or a stuck float in the tank, I will be looking at this on the weekend so some ideas would be great on where to start, Also have dash lights not working but I am about to go out now and rotate the headlight switch to check if there is a dimmer and if its not working correctly
Thanks,,
Thanks
Steven

Clean the contact wire on the fuel tank, as it sound like it's not making contact. Plus make sure all the screws are tight on the send unit while you are there.

I got the speedo light to come on by giving the dimmer a wriggle,, no other lights came on tho, well apart from the external lights,,
does the fuel gauge and the oil light side also have lights in them, I don't get any ignition lights either,, maybe ill take the gauges out and clean all the contacts on the back of the cluster
Thanks
Steven

Yes the fuel and oil gauges have lights for them. Could be just globes.

Also for the fuel gauge if you cant get it to work try running an extra wire to earth it. On mine I soldered a wire to the sender and then earthed it with a mounting screw, works fine.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

It could also be the wiring behind the gauge. Mine goes to full sometimes, which I'm gathering is a bad earth or a short or something behind the gauge, coz if i shove my hand up there and play around with it a bit , it fixes up..

The gauge, that is 8)
