Diff Advice

Post by matt71 »

Howdy,
I'm running a freshly reco'd grey and reco'd standard 3.89 diff with 175/80 13 tyres with standard rims-I do quite bit of highway driving and the diff whine is pretty intense between 55 and 60mph which I'm guessing is fairly normal.

if I change to a 3.55 diff will that help remove the whine or just move it to a higher speed before it kicks in with all its glory?! Also soon going up to 185/80's not sure if that will help.

Do you have to replace the housing or can you just swap out the innards with the existing 3.89 housing and the rear uni joint?

cheers
matt

Diff whine isn't normal, changing the centre should see the whine disappear if its a good centre.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.
