Brakes work all the time...

Post by J »

Ok so my EK has a kingpin front end with torana disc brakes on the front, this conversion was done by the original owner and they worked fine for over 2 years.

One night on the way to northbridge my brakes failed and we found out that bolts had come loose on the adaptors and that was it.

My brakes at another point started squealing and with the replacement of brake pads they worked fine again, however..... they began to rub.

Taking it back to the mechanic he realised that the calipers were on the wrong side and swapped them over, it did fix the problem but after about a week the brakes actually made my car sound like a freight train - the rubbing was even worse then before.

So, dealing with that for a while on my way to an important event on Friday some stupid bitch pulls out infront of me in a small shopping complex area without even looking.... i slam on the skids and shudder to a stop. After checking to see if I hit the woman and giving her a loud abusive piece of my mind I drove off. Lightly touching the brakes to turn a corner my car shuddered to a stop again (my left hand front had locked up). I parked it, let it rest and came back to it 5 minutes later, tested again and it locked up completely....

Left the car, went to the thing and had my dad come collect it.

Any ideas?

Is it just the one caliper that is dragging ? If so , check the flexible hose hasnt collapsed internally. If both are playing up , check that you have freeplay between the pushrod and the master cylinder piston.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Check your caliper bolts are tight - maybe there is something loose under there and the caliper is moving
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Mate do yourself a favour and have a mechanic check it out, if you aren't sure about brakes or steering always have it done properly. I can appreciate you are keen to do your own work but sometimes it pays to pay an expert and you'll be back driving safely

i agree with newman, i don't like/can't afford letting other people working on my car, but if i couldn't figure out why my brakes weren't working i wouldn't want to risk it

I do appreciate that but if it is as simple as a few bolts I'd rather do it myself then pay more money and still have shitty brakes.
cos it is inevitable, if I pay money they will still be crap cos they dont fit or adapt or I dno....

Im gonna go to the mines, make some money then 2 dr bag v8 it.

just get it checked out by a brake place and they'll tell you what needs to be done. Unless you end up figuring it out. I thought you went into the army? 2 door bagged v8 sounds like its worth digging holes
