Ballast resistance??

Post by Sputzwagon »

..Can anyone out there tell me if an FB/EK has a ballast resistor wire??
I've bought a 'Pertonix Ignitor' electronic ignition kit for my car and can't for the life of me work out if the FB/EK has a ballast resistor wire running from the positive of the coil to the ignition??
According to the manual it does'nt look like it..but if that is the case why did my EK run without a hitch from home to Queensland & back with a GT40' R' coil in it??? I've tested the wire tonight and it seems to have 12 volts running through it (if I'm using 'OldnEK' John's meter correctly?)
I HATE NOT KNOWING THIS ELECTRICAL STUFF!!! :x
Do I need to buy a 12 volt coil??? ARRRRGGHHHH!!

Scotty.

both of my ek's from original wiring didn't have a ballast resistor wired in anywhere between the ignition and the coil itself.
a wire for positive will run from battery, to the ignition barrel (BAT) and a wire from the ignition terminal (IGN) to the positive side of the coil if i remember properly. on the other side is obviously your negative...and i can't quite remember where that went though logic tells me it'd just be to a solid grounding point.
Either way, can't remember any little thingamawizzes between the ignition and coil :D hope this helps
