Hi,
I was hoping for a little clarification. I have been told many different opinions about the original factory colour of FB ute firewall from factory. I am of the opinion they were originally painted black??? u can see in the picture below of the assembly line, that the wagon is in black too. A few people have tired to tell me it should be body colour???? Dave showed me his van & its the body colour. ...
so were they different, utes, vans, sedans??? or were some plants doing different things????
Just wanted to hear what u all had to say???
Thanks & look forward to some answers???
Sam

Hi..
"Adelaide built cars had coloured firewalls."
correct.
My FB van is an Adelaide build and has honey Biege on the firewall. Found that out when i was doing the engine transplant and water blasted the poorly applied matt black paint off. That someone over the past 50 years had applied with a rattle can spray pack.
To add to the confusion. It has a Melbourne build subframe.
I figured that the van must have had a smash at some stage and they had wheeled a Melbourne front end onto it.
Apparently not.\
I have been told that Some of the pannos and ute shells where shipped to Melbourne where the assembly was completed with the Melbourne front ends and hanging panels.. gaurds .. doors... bonnet.. running gear etc.
Perhaps a few of the other ute and van dudes here on tthe forum can verify if thier cars have Adelaide Bodies ( painted firewalls) with Melbourne fronts
Reddo
Holden .. australian car for australian conditions.....partyin', drinkin' ,cruisin' and rootin'
Blacky - silly question but is your ute like mine? WA ute with Perth Sub Frame & Adelaide ID plate on fire wall?
to side step for a sec.... I did notice when I was doing undercarriage work that it was originally painter body colour, with only deadened in wheel arches. was this a varying detail too???
So if I have a black colour firewall, does that mean its been painter black at some stage of its life???
Thanks again Gentlemen.
Sam

Sam Im pretty sure your engine bay has never been touched. I looked at a van the other day and it was body colour on the firewall and the whole underside including the wheel arches. The body colour was painted over the body deadener.
The car seemed to be all original paint.
Ive also picked up a ute the other day that is the same as above (honey beige EK).
