Thanks for the support guys! Old man got busy and stripped the motor down some more, also go onto some bucket seets for the front and fitted up the HR front end and tacked on the outrigger. Then today we dropped her back out and removed the engine mounts to make way for the new ones:

With the POR, did you's blast/bare metal the floors at all ?

The car had new floors & trans tunnel fitted when we bought it, but because it had been out in the weather for a while they had a fair bit of surface rust on them. Rather than blast, I put in the elbow grease on the wire brush, then followed the POR15 instructions to the letter, including using the recommended three step process - Marine Clean, Metal Ready, then POR15 paint. From memory I think the instructions say a wire brush finish is preferred over blasting, with the wire brushed surface giving better adhesion. I'm very happy with the result.

Well now the fun really begins. Did a dummy fit of the engine & trans today to see if it's all going to fit. So far so good. Put the new sump on - it's not really sitting on the crossmember as the photo's look like - we've got about 15 mm clearance. Good clearance with the firewall too, although we'll have to fit a front mounted rack & pinion and the radiator will mount on the front of the support panel, not behind as stock. Got the engine mounts tacked in, all ready for a professional with better welding skills than me to weld in properly. All in all a productive day. Cheers

yeah no worries mate, the top of the column is FB , the bottom is VC commodore to go with the rack...

this is the man that organised man, and the FB floor bits are welded to the column as well

Those mounts are a beautiful piece of work, they make the engine sitting less cluttered than the traditional way of mount fabrication.

Nice job Guy's. I like how low the engine sits. We were lucky with our conversion, we had room for a rear mounted Commodore rack it was a tight fit but we got it in between the sump and the bell housing. Using the a custom wheel on a Commodore column . . I can't help thinking you need a roof chop
