Dear all,
FB grey motor three speed.
When I push the clutch in then release it the peddle comes back very slow.
I can change gears no worries and the car drives but with a very slow returning pedel it is a bastard on hill starts etc.

All I can think of is
The clutch peddle spring needs adjustment
The system has air in it.
Slave cylander needs replacing or the master cylander.

Once the peddle is up there is no clutch slip.

My ek was doing something similar- was also really heavy to push in. I changed my slave cyl and master but probably just slave would have been enough.

Thanks Jake and yes my pedel is hard to push in also.
I have a new slave cylander in the shed so will fit it and post the result.

Yep - had this back in the '70's.
What I had mistakenly done back then, was to fit the wrong end of the clutch flexible hose first.... then tightened up the other end....
This "twisted" the hose and constricted the connection.
You will find one end has a "loose" connection - I believe it is the master cylinder end of the flexible rubber pipe to the sub-frame..
Fit the slave cylinder end first -then make the connection at the other end....

If this doesn't "fix" it.... I would expect that there is then a blockage of some description.... somewhere......

Yeah Rosco, I changed that guy also and had the same difficulty- but the other end was bound up on mine so I "pre twisted" my hose- not an easy way to do it as it got about two inches shorter real quick! So far no leaks!

Thanks guys still haven't changed the slave and hose need to get a hose made as repco and rare spares don't have them.
New hose will be ready on Monday now will give a verdict when replaced.

Thats strange Mick, I got mine from rares around nine months ago and I think they had a couple on the shelf , any way hopefully changing those bits will fix your problem- I know mine was giving me the sh@#s til i fixed it.

if you fit the "fixed" end first - you won't have to "pre-twist" the hose....
As for being unable to obtain a replacement hose..... I'm sure Burson's should have them.
If not - as I did with mine due to modification.... Pirtek will make up a hydraulic hose for you...... they are not allowed to do brake hoses - but they are permitted to do clutch ones......

Keep me up to speed with this, please - I'm interested to learn the result...

The problem is in the flexible hose to the slave cylinder. Over time they swell causing a restriction which slows down the flow of fluid when the clutch pedal is activated and released. Replacements are available from Bursons. Rares should have stock of them as well. Part No H669 from memory.

I had a slow clutch return on an old EK years ago,
It was like driving a semi automatic
You could just sidestep the clutch,
it would return at just a nice pace
so that you could accelerate away

Hi Guys thanks for all your suggestions it was the rubber clutch hose plenty of fluid going through but the inside of the hose was collapsed.

Also sorry for the late reply to the fix solution Mum died last week pretty hard time.
