Anyone have a breakdown ????

Post by Dakam »

After pushing the old girl about 1400 kms without incident, with about 40kms from home she couldnt take it any more..

Just turned onto the Greenborough Hwy from the Eastern Ring Rd. Backed off the pedal for the red light then a tapping sound got louder and clunk!!!  The light went green, rolled through the intersection, down a bit of a hill till I found a clearing on the Hwy to pull in to.

Kym rang a mate who lives near by while I was outside cracking the SHITS!!!!  :x :x
He gave us a number of a mate with a truck, and loaded us up.

We all got in the truck, and travelled the last 40 kms of the trip in a tray truck. :x :x
Did a good deal with the trip, although not the best way to finish an awesome weekend.
All I can say is F*CKING TIMING GEAR!!!!! :x :x :x

I suppose it's better it happened this way than 40km's from home heading to the Nationals. :D

Sorry to hear about your timing gear Dave..(especially on a RED?! ).
Pete & I had a good run all the way to Wintersun & back until just before Singleton and the EK started to get a bit of a vibration in the drivetrain so we slowed the drive back to Pete's home. Still was a good run with two drivers 13 1/2 hours from the outskirts of Brisbane to Hazelbrook in the Blue Mountains ..not bad for a grey powered EK.
The drivetrain wobble turned out to be a chewed out front uni that I fixed today in Penrith (a big thanks to Woody and the crew in Penrith Muffler Man for the loan of his hoist, BIG HAMMER & bench vice for a few hours while I fixed the EK) and the I was back on the road vibration free again. :D
I love driving around this big Country of ours in an EK...makes the miles more enjoyable. 8)

So close.... I disconnected my speedo this morning as it was squeeling its head off. Had a screw fall out of the carby and the accelerator pump nut loosen itself but that was it. Oh and a slight oil leak  Rear main.....not so slight anymore.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

Kate and I are home Kate's car shit its gear box at Kempsey at lulu's house we thought this would happen sooner than that so another trip south this weekend with a trailer 7 hours each way oh joy
other than that we kept running out of petrol first near Sydney were we caused a 2 km traffic jam while we filled her back up no one was impressed then 10 km out of Brisbane mine ran out of petrol also got the 20 l can and fill it up
then the battery decided not to start so I had to push her with Kate at the wheel we got her going and Kate did not want to wait for me so i had to make a mad dash after the runaway wife and the fb sorry did not get any photos of it cause I was not happy
Free to live ........ and drive my car's

Heading into Narrandera about 10k's out i was busting for a leak so pulled into a rest stop. Martin and Darren were following me and Darren's EK shit itself just as we pulled in. You guessed it, timing gear and guess who got the blame for stopping???
We towed the late model crap :) in behind my FB and parked it in the Midtown car park till Friday morning. Lucky i had three spare timing gear kits plus another one in the Vic club spare parts box, so no shortage of bits.
The great people at the Motel allowed us to work on the car in the car park and even lent us a drill to remove the busted bits.
Couple of hours later and she was back on the road. Just a minor set back.
Poor old Blacky's Ute, now that's another story.

The Jackson crew made it without a single breakdown, I believe. I know there was a flat tyre on the hard edge of the motorway in the middle of the night with trucks roaring past, but that's all.
Every time anything went wrong, though, the collective cry went up: "Timing gear!"

I agree with Cal, though. Better 40ks from home than 40ks from the Nats!
