My car sounds like the black guy in police academy

Post by EKjimmy »

always making a different noise.

this time its making a tapping/clunking sound which gets faster as i accelerate, sounds like it COULD be tailshaft knocking on the trans tunnel or seat belt bolts, BUT when i checked under the car i couldn't find any spots that looked like anything was rubbing (no marks on tailshaft, seatbelt bolts, trans tunnel, anywhere).

I just put 2 inch lowering blocks in and noticed the noise during a quick test drive, so i'll tighten the bolts again to be sure.
The car sits about an inch off the bumpstops but it wasn't the sound of hitting them.

any ideas? just another mystery noise that my car likes to make

Pull out the tailshaft and check the uni joints, when you lower it the angle they run at changes, so you may get a noise if one
is half seized up.

This may help.

Cheers Peter. I tried to make sure the angle was right, but that's entirely possible. I'll go check that.

problem solved, couldn't see the tailshaft properly last night (not enough light).
front seat belt bolts were far too long, and rubbing/knocking the tailshaft. broke out the angle grinder and cut them down
=no more problems, just another lowered EK 8)
