'57 Chev build.

Post by Blacky »

This morning the crack team from FAB , along with a coule of willing? helpers , got stuck into a rather interesting project.
Todays job was a very simple one for the FAB experts, a chassis graft on a '57 Chev.

The day started off normally enough - Flatheads alter ego Whead was on the hot spanner duties on the donor chassis -
Image

then it was time to remove the body from the chassis

Image

using the patented screwdriver brake (tm) on the FAB chainblock
Image

then out with the hot spanner again for a haircut on the '57 chassis

Image

Things were progressing nicely at this point - unfortunately it was then opening time at the early opener so it was off to the pub for brekky schooners

Image

.. but once we were back it was full steam ahead

Image

The hole saw was a bit blunt so we needed two of us to drill the holes ....
Image

... or three

I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

We decided to wash all the old gunk out of the chassis -

Image

so Whead got in his washing outfit -
Image

... unfortunately it was all a bit too much for Tony - dont know if he is gonna cut it as an FAB subby ....
Image

back into it after washing up the spew and it was almost time for final fitup -
Image

..... and it even looked like it was gonna fit

Image

then we had a bit of trouble - somehow I got a bit of steel in me foot , got no idea how as I was wearing me safety thongs
Image

fortunately Tony has first aid training and managed to get it out with just a pair of scissors, a gympie and an old screwdriver

once that little drama was sorted the FAB engineering team put their heads together and devised a plan that was both cunning and devious
Image

the plan called for more bits so it was out with the red and black socket set once again
Image

Whead was running lean so we had to get some fluids into him - being a dedicated FAB stalwart he wouldnt stop working -
Image

The discussions and brainstorming sessions were quite intense -
Image

- so we had to have a glass of FAB "grand old paint stripper " port - an award winning drop , unfortunately the award was for unblocking drains and removing stubborn stains from concrete ...
Image

Fortunately 46Plym stayed sober enough to keep us on track to finish the job on time and under budget as usual
Image

Fat Tony admires the FAB handiwork on HIS gear
Image

.... the team admire their handiwork - another fine piece of engineering from the friendly team at FAB enterprises
Image

and the finished product - a 6 wheel twin steer '57 Chevy - a world first from the creative mids of the incredibly incredible FAB Fabrications team of experts.

Nice work, Blacky - very entertaining 8)

Kind of reminds of the guys I served my apprenticeship with, only they were team BF & I (Brute Force and Ignorance). 15 minute Ciggie breaks every quarter of an hour

That was lifted from another website - FAB is Flathead and Blacky. Flathead obviously is a F%#d freak so his alter ego Whead was helping out on the day :D

The front end has been tacked in so we could do a mock up before the weekend - fitted a dummy block so we could get a tailshaft made
Image

The 4 link has been tacked in for the same reason
Image

Before and after shots - sits a bit better now

It was a great day - plenty of laughs. Its what old cars are all about I reckon - a bunch of mates having fun and helping each other out.
