Kingpin & Bush Replacement

Post by insidemetal »

Hi,
Just for personal knowledge, I have been told the fb/ek king pin front end bushes are quite difficult to replace and special tools are needed. I do not have an FB/EK to experiment so I am asking the question. Any information on the setup would be very useful.
Thanks
Sam

Not difficult if you have a bush reamer kit and take your time reaming out the bushes to fit the kingpin. You have to ream very small amounts at a time so it is very time consuming. Ream them too much and they will be as sloppy as worn bushes and you will have to try and find some more bushes to fit and start reaming again.
You have to also make sure the grease holes line up because if not, no grease can be pumped in to the kingpin and they will wear fairly quickly without grease
If you haven't got a reamer kit and no experience in how to use one it might be a safer bet to buy some exchange rebuilt kingpin assemblies from Rare Spares ( I think they still do them.... anyone know ?? ).

Hope this helps,

Terry.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.
