Me again!!! (yep, on holidays, working on the ol' girl)
Whats the trick to fitting the seal for the extension housing on the gearbox?
I have limited room to swing a hammer (no ramps or hoist)
Already wrecked one.
Don't want to go through the whole of Perth's stock
Try to find a socket from your tool set that is big enough to fit the front face of the seal but no bigger than outer edge diameter of the seal or a 6 inch length of pipe which fits the seal in the same way.Make sure the pipe is cut off perfectly straight where you will be facing it to the seal.
Tap away.............
Hint,
To start the seal fitting, tap the seal in to start with at a bit one sided ( very slightly ) and then tap on the other side to correct it and then gently tap in once it has started to install nicely.
Don't know if this is helps but I had a similar problem and ended up letting the seal in its packet have a six hour rest in the kitchen freezer. After that just slipped in really easy and (touch wood) hasn't dripped yet.
