Re: harvs ek 327 wagon

Carb replaced... ran better, but still not running right. Turns out the MSD dizzy had corroded, and the advance had become sticky. Timing all over the place at times, fine at others. Dizzy pulled, overhauled and back in. New carb dynoed. After a frustrating few months chasing it, nice to have it run...

As an aside, some of the grey motor parts in that catalogue are interesting. High capacity sump, radiator shroud, magneto...

Re: Hand-crank for grey motor

Holden grey motor: 120 ftlb of torque,
Me, jumping on the crank handle: 200 ftlb of torque.
Number One Son's rattle gun: 1000 ftlb of torque.
Me, either throwing the crank handle or being spun inside out by the rattle gun: lots of talk

Hand-crank for grey motor

This is another example of where I get distracted. I have enough to keep me entertained, but have the attention span of a goldfish. In the early days of learning about FEDS, it occurred to me that they were all missing the starter motor. This saves quite a bit of weight – about 4½ kg. The FEDs were ...

Re: Ol' Rusty - FB/EK Sedan

Love the puddle lights. Might need to think through how to make them watertight. FB/EK window seals are not very sealy, and the water collects in the bottom of the doors. There are drain slots in the bottom of the doors, and corresponding cutouts in the door rubbers to let the water drain. The botto...

Re: Gearbox connecting rod. Bush needed?

That lever needs a bush, Rares or homemade.

It also appears to suffer the common “no bush and selector rod ate the lever until it was oval”. The bush will probably cure the ovality… in extreme cases, weld the lever and redrill.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute

The different heights/thicknesses of the two manifolds don’t help the washers. I use the bench grinder to step one side until the washer sits flat… then tighten well.

RAG but it works.

Re: Chrome plater recommendation

Will let you know how I go. 6-8 week lead so won't see the bits until last week of April/1st week of May. There were two options: show chrome and normal. I went for normal, as the FED will get used... hard. Quote to electrochemically strip then replate the steering arm and sump was $577. Shouldn't b...

Re: Making your own braided hoses

Good advice, and thanks all.

Ended up going with Speedflow hose and fittings. Parcel arrived with -6, -8 and -10 gear, and looks good. I had forgotten how good (and quick) their customer service is. Fitup process is pretty simple provided I take my time.

Ended up going with Astor Metal Finishes in Villawood. Dropped off the sump and steering arm. Now for the waity waity.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute

I couldn't put up with the deafening sound of crickets on here any longer. Ive decided the noise I thought sounded like rockers is a slight exhaust leak between the head face and manifold. There is carbon build-up evident above the manifold on the painted head surface. I will try and retention the ...

Re: Harv's FED thread

Lining up some projects for the Easter break. One of them is the windshield for the FED. It only needs to be about 4" tall in the middle, and tapers down to nothing at either end. The mounting holes are already drilled in the cowl. windshield.jpg One option is to make it from thin ally sheet. I...

Re: SA club trip to the NAt's in Bumbury

The throttle stick comes with integral kick release, and will help my gluteus maximum relax on the drive. It’s a bit of red neck tech I got from a truckie hauling tuna streaky bay to port Lincoln in the 70s. Used a similar setup on the Toowoomba trip but this one is the beta model. Does it double a...
