Removing windscreen wipers

Post by MBH222 »

Hi all,

My drivers side wiper is playing up, only wipes about a 25% area of the middle section of the windscreen. Im thinking the spindal thing that attaches to the wiper arms need replacing.

But how do I get it out to replace?

I have removed the wiper blade, retaining nut and crome spacer from the outside and now working under the dash.

The book I have has no picutres but says under the instrument panel to remove the retaining clip. I cant see any retaining clip, only a small screw which I dont think I need to undo.

See pics.......

Can anyone tell me how to seperate the wiper arm from this spindal thing or how to approach the problem.

Thanks,
Mick

It's allot easier to remove the whole arm from the motor end of the arm and replace the whole arm, Trev 8) .

Thanks Trev,

Ive never done this job before and am relatively new to fixing cars - (I only tend to fix stuff that breaks) so Im going in with L plates on. :(

Heres what I think I should do:

Step 1. Disconnect the arm at the wiper motor

Step 2. Remove arm. Does the spindal thing simply pull through from behind the instrument panel or is there some other steps?

Step 3. Buy a replacement arm. (Im guessing these are stocked at decent auto spares shops)

Step 4 - put back together.

Hows this?

Sounds good except for the getting a new one from a spares shop, aahhh no  , Step 3 should read ; ask on here if someone has a spare they want to sell me  .
We all started somewhere Mick, just remember, it goes back together the way you pulled it appart   , Trev 8) .

This is the closest post I could find to the topic. I have undone everything I can see on mine, but I cant seem to find any clips on the inside holding the spindle in place. Are there clips on the inside? It looks like the spindles has a square key lock cutout from above But I cant seem to move it. Any tips or pics??

give it a spray of CRC or WD-40 etc , then give it a whack with a nylon hammer, they are just tight.
