Are ventiated drum brakes rare?

Post by FeeBee »

I have just read on Ebay a set of ventilated drum brakes are rare. Is this correct? I have on my front end the same drum brakes which I would have called finned not ventilated. Are these not standard items on the front?

Hi FeeBee,
Ventilated/finned, same thing. I think they are rare to some extent but saying that my FB has finned front brake drums. My later EK does not. For the little cooling that they would do I think they have little worth but may add a little strength as far as expansion and contraction goes especially when using power brakes. Be very careful with what's on eBay. The last two adds aren't FB/EK as advertised. They are PBR aftermarket drums manufactured for EJ/EH and are 2 1/4" wide (FB/EK are 1 3/4"). You may be able to fit them after machining them narrower if possible. but you have to run different wheels from standard as the mounting faces are dead flat. FB/EK rims need a dished drum face to allow correct mounting of the rim.

Thanks Craig,
I won't be buying them, it was more of an understanding of what I currently have, so when I go to sell them I know if I have something rare or not.
Once I get my front end, being HR or a torana front end, I will be selling my FB front end off. Doubt I will get much for it, but would rather sell it then scrap it.

These ones?

The GTR guys do their load for Torana ones.

Dunno if these are the same.

I saw these on ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FE-FC-FB-EH- ... 161wt_1138

Can anyone tell me if they are really for an FB? I'd put in a bid if they are, as I am desperate to find ANY drums to complete my resto project. I have 2 that are machined to the max and 2 that are too far gone and need to be replaced. If anyone can point me towards a couple of drums I could safely machine and use it would be appreciated.
