Hey guys, just thought I'd post a couple of shots of where I'm up to with the sedan. Chassis rails are in, floor pans are in, new sill is on and the filler cap for the XB fuel tank is in. Just need to get the trans tunnel & fit that then start on the little stuff.
To date I've sent the front end to Rods Racks for a front mounted rack to be fitted. He is doing the sump and engine mounts also.
Have the motor (supercharged V6 & auto)
Have the disc brake 9inch with 3.50 LSD.
Will post more as I go.
Cheers
Mal

Looking good Mal,

You do realise the Jag caps are in back to front? Maybe you did this on purpose!

The wiring I'm going to use is from Gardners, they seem to be the mose realistic money wise. The fuel cap is in the way I thought it suited me the best. Didn't really consider what should or shouldn't be.

Mal,

I'm wrong mate, the cap is the correct way. I confused myself when I first looked at your photo's. I need some sleep - I'm seeing things!

Love the caps, enjoy finding the lead seam with the mig? What about a water drain did you think of that? When I did my frenched aerials I ran a drain down to the wheel arch and simply used garden hose.

Malcolm, shes looking sweet, nice work with the filler and the chassis rails!

one thing which may interest you for some extra strength is at the rear of the chassis rails ... see pic below:

Image

see how it tucks into the spring hanger a bit, i dunno if you want to worry about it, but it may help add some extra strength to the hangers.

its not done in that picture but there is a weld that runs along the hanger edge where it meets the rail.

Sammy.

When I had my panel shop I'd replaced a few Jag fuel cap recesses due to rust and I thought the way I put mine in was right but that was a few years ago now and I will always submit to possibly being wrong. The drains will exit through plastic tube and go down through the inner guard.

Sam you must be getting close to getting your car going now. Have you progressed much with the wiring yet. I taking the easy way out with my wiring and getting a kit through Gardners.

At the moment I'm playing radiators. Thats fun, especially when the radiator is wider than the engine bay.

Nice job Mal.

Better check clearance of the bonnet, she may come pretty close where top radiator corners protrude.

Yeh,
I do have that in the back of my mind. The radiator has to go down about 20mm yet. If that doesn't work, I'll keep cutting.

Malcolm,

the last few months has seen very little work on the fb unfortunately. The wiring is in and the engine is running, all be it somewhat messy and just layed in, but yeah, engine is running, battery is in the boot now and i have wired up the surge tank and two pumps etc for that, i need to get the diff shortened and fitted to the car and then i will pretty much be able to move it around (oh and tailshaft). once the diff is in i can do the brakes also.

as far as wiring goes, i've nutted out the front lights so all the original lights run off the commodore loom, and the back should be easy but i need to find a NEW light fitting that will clip into the fb taillight housings.

also i have progressed with the radiator and that is in place and working, i went for a vb-vl commodore radiator as it fit between the inner guard areas and i used a bit of tube to make a lower radiator support that got the radiator down low enough that the bonnet cleared and all that ... it worked out well as the car was setup for a HD/HR size radiator so i didn't need to widen the hole in it to fit the commodore radiator.

space infront of the engine is tight, so im using a VS commodore dual speed thermo and making a custom mount/shroud for it (its narrower than the vn/vr fan) twin thermos ... hmmmm maybe i should have!

still gotta work out mounting of oil coolers and the like but theres plenty of room infront of the radiator for that.

I have to agree totally, sometimes I have to secure certain areas of my car with orange bunting to stop me from changing anything else.
