Stabiliser mounts in the way!

Post by DOLLER »

Looking at my front end last night I can see i'm going to have trouble when I fit my front mount rack in that it will probably hit my stabiliser bar mounts. Im using HR front, HQ stubs and calipers, LC arms and rack. Anyone using the same combo?

Hi Doller

My setup is similar and done by Rod's Racks (near Brisbane). Rod actually extends the sway bar mounts forward so the torana rack tie rods don't hit the sway bar connecting rods. What this means though is that the sway bar bush mounts in the chassis also have to be moved forward by the same amount. Not too complicated in practicality. Photo below might help - you can see where the old mount hole has been filled.

Cheers, Steve

ps: are you related to the Dollers from Tatura? I used to knock around with a couple of those blokes in a past life.

What is the stub axle and brake set up you have in that photo?

HR drum brake stubs, VN Commodore rotors & VT Commodore twin piston calipers. Not real sure about the rotors at this stage as they're a little bit thinner than VT ones. I'm gunna talk to the engineer about whether I can get thicker ones (VN HSV) machined down in diameter to fit. I haven't seen anything in the rules that says you can't - and if I can they'd be a better fit.

Cheers.

Do you have any pictures of the brackets on the stubs?
Interested to see as I thought the VT calipers would be too big a hit on the upright.

Yeah steve I'm using the same rack but shortened and it sits about 50mm lower. Its mounted through the centre of the outrigger. What motor are you using??Mounts are pretty high.

The brake caliper adaptors (for HR Drum Stub) I have will only allow for standard VN - VP calipers. VT calipers are too long and hit the vertical part of the stub axle.
Where did you get your brakets from?
Do you have a face on shot of the bracket?
Thanks,
Ben

Doller: Motor will be LS series alloy Chev with rear drop truck sump. Rack mounts are adjustable up & down (above outrigger) to help address any bump steer issues.

Ben: VT calipers clear the stub axle fine with this setup, done by Rods Racks - www.rodsracks.com.au. Don't have a photo of brackets handy but will take one & post when I swap rotors over.

Cheers, Steve
