Guys,

Just wondering where the best place to get Grey motor head work done. I'm in Canberra but can get the work done in Melbourne, Sydney and of course Canberra.

I am after some one to rebuild 2 Grey motor heads with new valves and any other work that is required to run unleaded fuel.

I am also after an organisation to dip a Grey motor block.

If any one has any good contacts that would be great.

I have recently spoken to Cavalier engines at smithfield in Sydney. Seemed to be very informed on things grey & red

Hardest part of modifying a grey head is getting the ports to flow as they just wern't designed for high performance work originally.The essence of the grey motor design goes back to the the Chev stovebolt 6 cylinder engine that first appeared in 1929.

Just installing bigger valves is only part of the flow fix so make sure you find someone you knows just how to modify the ports in a grey without hitting the water jackets and ruining the head.

Most modified heads used standard red motor valves,you might even get the bigger oversized yella terra valves in there.Have heard of blokes using 253/308 valves ?? but there would need to be combustion chamber work at the very least done to install 253/308 valves.

Just a quick question to those that have gone the red motor valves into grey head option.

What valve springs did you use? The original grey valves, etc or the corresponding red valves, retainers and collets?

Update: You can use red motor holden valve springs (6 or 8 apparently, I have not done or seen this personally though.)

Or like me you can keep the grey springs. The less of that red filth the better
