Hi guys,

Seems some of my rubbish mileage is probably due to the fact my carby fuel bowl appears to be leaking - specifically out of the plug that you remove for access to the main jet. Is it possible to use some sort of grease/petroleum jelly/etc to seal the plug from the outside?

Hi James,
there should be a copper washer fitted to that plug - it is always a good investment to fit a new one each time you remove and refit..... I would baulk at using any sealant..... it isn't needed if you can get a washer.....

The other issue may be one of damage.... the body housing may be damaged, threads of the plug/housing damaged, plug or sealing edge of plug hole nicked etc. etc.....

Try fitting a new gasket - it won't hurt to purchase a few.....
I can't remember if the main plug and pump plug are the same size - I fear not.....

I would jump onto this pretty quickly, James..... petrol over a hot exhaust manifold has very serious ramifications......

apparently theres a bit of a trick to fitting the copper washer - you have to put the washer in the hole BEFORE screwing the plug in.

dont ask me why. i have no idea.
