What Radio????

Post by Sputzwagon »

Here's where I'm up to on the dash fascia.

Can you pick the difference?

Whilst at Fatboy's a while back I took a section of corrugated dash tin and have been prepping it for this 'transplant' to remove the radio indent that our car's all have.
The reasons are...1: give it that "normal..but not quite" effect I love to see.
2: it's custom (of course!)
3: being a 'Standard Sedan' I had to use the corrugated section to match the rest of the dash (be a hell of a lot easier on a 'Special' because of the fascia plate! :x ).
Once I welded in the new section (bloody fiddly to line up those little corrugations!) and a wipe of nicky and Hi-fill then Ill add the colour and then 'lace' it in the shape of the alloy fascia plate like the side flash. 8)

Sorry Dave....did'nt mean to steal your idea mate...it just seemed the only option I had (other than do the 'flat plate' look)...& Ratbox had already done it! :D
wish I had more time this weekend to finish it..but I also had to erect a new washing line here at home (because the old one broke at the base! :x ).

Hey I am just gald someone has done it and posted what the end result is like, thanks Scotty. Now as said I need to get the bits to get it done as well, as I do not like that plate that cover that part up as well as the butcher job on where the radio went (long gone). So it's all about time...
Cheers, Dave  .
Whatever....:(

G'day Boys 'n' Girls..
here's an update on my custom dash set up...
I could'nt stand the old temperature gauge under the dash (plus it did'nt work  ) so I decided to move it up to where I can actually see it! I did this also on my old wagon..but it looked a bit out of place just sitting there..so this time I've decided to make an FB/EK esque frenched surround.
Firstly it was out with my trusty pvc tube and gorilla hair (actually in my case it becomes "guerrilla" hair  ) and start moulding a piece.
Here's it in it's first 1/2 finished state..
Image
Next (when I was happy with the surround ) was fit it to the dash and mark where I have to cut the hole for the gauge to go through. Once the hole was cut I drilled two small holes either side for mounting screws.
Image
once I was happy with the fit of every thing it was a simple case of bogging the gaps and sanding it smooth ready for high-fill & paint.

Note: the new place for the CD player..now passengers cant change my change my music or radio stations!!  8)

Well done, Scotty.

I always envied the EJ/EH blokes for being able to fit aux gauges.
I have not convinced myself that there IS an easy place to fit gauges in our old buses - but of the few in which I have seen people spend a bit of effort making them appear "in house" ... they come up a treat...

Yours, Scotty - will be one of those.....

Sadly, there will be many who look into your vehicle who will simply not "see" what you have done..... that is the true mark of a job well done....

frats,
Rosco

Firstly..thanks for the kind word Rosco & Devilrod :D ..
Had perfect weather conditions this arvo :D so out with the masking tape & touch-up gun ..YAY it's back to Seaforth Green again! 8) :D
Image
Note: inside the Temperature Gauge surround is the darker metallic Green ..I'm doing this to the dash gauges as well then lacing the area that the Special's alloy fascia plate goes. Should have the dash finished Thursday arvo..fingers crossed.
