I have at present removed the entire grille from my EK whilst cleaning up the radiator baffle area.
I am considering dismantling and polishing the grille whilst I have it out.
Has anyone effectively done this?

I have a 8 inch bench grinder and will pick up both calico and fine buffs for the job - together with the compound bar for stainless.

My question is - has anyone gone through this process, is it worth the effort - I suppose to the fanatical perfectionist any result is worth it, but to the general (no pun intended) observer, is a day or so spent hunched over the workshop bench justified?

I am led to believe stainless will polish up to nearly a chrome finish if done correctly. I managed to polish my interior door trim bars to almost that using a dremel and quite a few different compounds of metal polishes but I suppose the initial supply of interior stainless may have been polished to a much higher standard than the grille bars?

So, my fraternal enthusiasts - who can glean some experiential knowledge in my (and for the general betterment of our genre's ) direction?

If the stainless is dull try using wet & dry 1000 or 1200 grit, then use the buff. It saves heaps of time.
Try on an old trim first to gain confidence with the wet & dry.
I've used a metal file on stainless trim then various grades of wet & dry then had them buffed by a professinal polisher.

have had a bit of a play with an old FX hubcap - got the finish I was looking for but as you suggested a whole heap of effort to get there.
Will have a go with some 1200,1500 and 2000 wet and dry then buff up with stitched sisal with fast dress then the looses calico with fine dress.
Let you know how this comes up before I commit to my grille.
