Hi all, new to the forum, although have been watching from the sideline for ages. I also kick around on the EH and FJ forums a bit. ( I have EJ's and an FJ)
Bought an EK wagon the other day (on ebay some of you may have seen it), was $500 and only 30 mins up the road, but has a bit of rust, to me it doesnt seem too bad. I would prefer to restore the car, however want the opinion of the experts on here as to whether im wasting my time with this car or its really not too bad. Pictures show the entirity of the rust I can see. I have pulled everything apart and Subframe, firewall, sills, windscreen frame, doors, tailgates and everything else are all rust free. Mud guards have been sandblasted and have a bit on the tops near windscreen curve.
Was originally a pyramid coral with barrier coral roof. Someone has sprayed the outside grey
It needs a motor and box, if anyone knows of one, ill post a wanted add in the appropriate section.
Everything is wet as I washed it then drenched all in fish oil.


Passanger floor and underbody brace. Other than this area the rest of the floor pan is fine.

Wagon area floor, this is the worst of it. Tank is buggered, metal brace for ply floor is buggered and other areas as seen

Under Rear Seat - floor pans in rear are fine

Left rear Quarter, Right hand side is fine

Any ideas appreciated

Every thing there looks to be fixable , have you got experience with rust repair? if so go for it .

Looks like a prime wagon for what ever you want.
If thats all the rust you have, your set like a jelly.

Does look like a lot of rust, but as you can see in other posts, even extremely rusted cars can be rebuilt.

Just depends how good you are are cutting and welding, and rust repairs.

You haven't filled in your location on your profile, what part of the world are you from ?

at a guess he's 30 mins from harden, i nearly bought that car a while back pretty sure minifb on this forum use to own it quite a while back

I didnt even mean to buy it really, put a bid on and didnt think too much of it, low and behold I have a email saying I have won! The seller was a real top bloke. Had put the car together for me before i picked it up. I have always liked FB/EK's, Would have prefered an FB Wagon as I like the flash, but beggars cant be choosers
Im a bit of a purist so it will be going back to stock, as with all my other resto's.
Would love to know the history of it if anyone knows it or if it was minifb's car. chassis EK38328S body EK229 7573S
If it was minifb's he left most of the original toolkit in the glovebox

Will get a couple of pics of the car tomorrow, when I put the guards and bonnet back on

Welcome to the forum Dave , looks like a fairly straightforward resto there. I would be inclined to have the shell blasted if it were mine , that will tell you if you have any more rust issues to deal with.

Under the green vinyl seat cover is a perfect factory seat

Dont worry about the bare guard, its a rusty spare

Therer have been some bigger resto on here by other members, doesn't look too bad, go for it and welcome to the dark side .

I'd leave that rust hole in the rear floor 'cos you can get to the tailshaft bolts without jacking up the car!!

A definite rebuild for sure. Yes there is some work there (most do) but take your time and you'll have a schmick wagon one day.

Yep dave thats my old wagon........... I got it from a guy who lived at a place called tumbalong (no not the wreckers) He had about 400 cars on his property. and about 100 of them were early holdens. I wanted to save all of them but he put them all through the crusher Then i sold it to a guy here in Junee then it went to harden.. Cheers Mark

How awesome is that. Out of all the Old Holdens I have owned this is the only one where I can track it back more than 2 previous owners!! Most have no history known..

You dont have any photos of it when you owned her do you?
Seems to have past a few hands, guess the rust scared people off.
