I've had a cheapie auto adjustable helmet for a few years now and it worked fine ( it was a solar/battery powered one ) until just the other day when the head adjuster broke and even then I was able to wire up the headband to keep the weld job underway.

( why do tools/parts always break on weekends just after the shops are shut?? )

Just bought another solar auto adjust helmet from Bunnings for $79 but yet to give it a run to see how it goes.

Auto adjust helmets are by far better than the flip lense ones as it gives you an extra pair of hands to hold/position/whatever, the part to be welded.

I reckon they are better because you dont have to put your stubby down.

I remember doing a welding course at tech some years back..

Couldn't see shit with the welding mask so I took it off.

No wonder everything white seemed like it was red for the next week

I don't know about the cheapies but I bought one from BOC gas and that was about 5 or 6 years ago and it cost me about $400 and it is still brilliant and I couldn't even make up a complaint, the battery is even still original, Couldn't be without it and after this one I will certainly get another non cheapy one
