Fuel Pump

Hey all

My fuel pump seems to have sprung another leak

This time it's actually spitting out fuel rather than a drip. straight onto the engine . It seems to be coming from where the pump meets the engine block, though I thought no fuel actually went down that far in the pump....

The gasket there looks rooted. In actual fact it seems like someone has stuck silastic all around there.

Is it just a simple case of undoing the 2 bolts, taking out the pump and putting it back on (with a new gasket) ?

Sounds like it's stuffed, if there is a swap meet on and you have a spare $5 go and get another one, or someone on here that is up your way should have a spare, Trev

Spare 5 bucks??

I just spent 100 on a new pump..........now for the hard bit.

Taking out the old one and putting the new one in

On taking a closer look it looks like the diaphram was stuffed.........changing that is beyond my limited capabilities

i've had the fuel system bug this week aswell

nearly bought a pump i didn't need

running great now but has a blown head gasket

i'll fix that monday before i go home, it never ends

just one of those things

not even real sure of the condition of the rest of the engine

a couple of times it fumed REAL bad but sat easily on 110kmh good laugh though a car that looks like mine billowing smoke at 145kmh (by the tom tom) beside one of those flash mitsubishi somethingorothers the guy's face was priceless something like this

Hey guys it seems the fuel bug has caught me out too,

When the car's running it's actually sucking in air through the bottom of the glass (and leaking out there too)

I am presuming it's just an o-ring (rubber or cork??)

Can I just make an o-ring (or pick one up from an auto-shop) or should I buy a whole new diaphragm kit and give it an overhaul?

I found a kit (Goss) for only 15 bucks but postage is 15 as well, so 30 bucks an o-ring is a tad steep

FBeing, you can buy just that gasket for around 5 bucks.

if you buy it on it's own it comes in rubber. If you buy the whole kit you get a cork one.

You gotta be precise with a certain spares shop. Kit advertised for 20 bucks......you turn up and its 45 bucks.

For 99 bucks you get a whole new pump

Yep I reckon my pump is still OK so I will just get a cork gasket (or make one) from Supercheap on the weekend, certainly the cheapest and easiest option (thanks Terry!)
