Advice for rear brakes and shackle bushes please.

Post by acotters »

Hello all.
My name is Andrew, I'm new to the club and this forum.
I've just bought an original black EK sedan, and need to replace the rear brake cylinders and shoes as well as replace the shackle rubbers to get the RWC.
I have all the bits, I was just hoping someone knew of what dangers I might encounter.
I hope to have it on the road for Hanging Rock and meet some of you then.
Thanks, Andrew.
Whingeing won't fix it.

Hi Andrew

The jobs should not be too difficult - follow the instructions from the FB manual and she'll be right.

Use plenty of the rubber grease supplied with the shackle bushes and a big hammer. Don’t fully tighten the nuts on the bushes until the car is back on the ground and you have rocked the back end to help seat the bushes correctly.

The brake shoe and cylinder replacement is relatively simple and should not pose any problems.

G'day Andrew, good to see another FB/EK'er join up.Shouldn't be too many dangers.Make sure the car is supported well on jackstands and take the weight off the rear axle before you try and knock out the shackle pins otherwise it will be hard and if your fingers get in the way of the hammer it hurts as well.Be carefull you don't damage the threads on the shackle pins when you remove/install them.
Ditto to Andrew (FB60)with his installation comments for shackle bushes.
Do your brake shoe and cylinder replacement one side at a time because if you forget how it all goes together you can refer to the still assembled other side.
You may come across other probs but if you get stuck just ask on this forum and we'll all try and help.

Terry.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.
