I originally many moons ago cut down a HR column for my CRS R&P conversion but i read somewhere that regs have changed and you now need a collapsable column to pass engineering in Vic ? is this true or will a different column suffice ?

The Victorian boys might be in a better position to answer this than me or ring Vicroads or Vicroads approved engineer but..................

In NSW anything over 186 red needs to have a collapsible steering column and there is information on this requirement under National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Modifications via the "Dotars" site.

All states follow this standard but they do 'tweak" the rules to suit their own requirements so there can be some differentuation between each state as to rule interpretation.

You should be able to find the info you need there.

If its any help I'm doing 307/T350 to EK and I'm planning on using a HK Auto collapsible column in mine.

I know of other blokes that have used Torana,HQ/WB,Commondoor collapsible columns as well.

I used an LH-LX column in the EK sedan which mates to a CRS front mount rack n pinion.

The missus EJ also uses an LH column.

Does the lh column have plastic or metal covers ?

the lower section of the column is all metal ... but the top section has plastic like around the blinkers etc.

The torrie column I used has a metal surround at the very top ( closest to the wheel) where the key lock assembly and blinker stalk resides. Below the metal surround is a large plastic shroud which mates the metal surround to the dash of the Torana.

I removed the blinker stalk, plastic shroud and ground down the iginition lock shape, removed all metal bolt anchors and cable clips.

A new polished shroud was then thrown over the top to clean it up.

Also picked up a column that wasnt column shift.

Heres the best picture I could find , sorry its somewhat old as the blinker wasnt fitted at the time of the shot -

Thanks, i didnt want an ignition switch on the column so one that is easily removed is ideal and an LH column will work well with the LH steering rack.
