Hey Guys,

Kind of a weird one, but for some reason some previous owner took it upon themselves to brush paint some shitty green paint over the entire original interior color. If I sit there and pick at it ( which I do ) I can pull whole sections off revealing perfect original paint underneath! Total mystery to me why they did this unless maybe some of the doors aren't original either way it looks crap. See pic to kind of see the shitty green paint.




Anyways I have no knowledge of paint but I'm guessing it's acrylic if it peels off and was brushed on? My question is do you guys know what would be best to remove this crappy paint without removing the original factory stuff?

if its peeling off like you say, id try an air gun/air blower(compresed air)

ok Like a heat gun you mean? Didn't think of that I was trying to think of a solvent.

but seriously I'd grad a plastic paint scraper from Bunnings and start having a go at it, use a heat gun carefully on any stubborn sections

If its peelin - I'd say it's enamel - specially if its been burshed on.... or even worse house paint acrilic.

If its working taking it off by scraping it - I'd keep going if it isnt doing any damage to the good stuff underneath.

Anything you use to get it off is probably going to hurt the factory paint underneath.

If you are going to paint the dash anyway I don't seem any harm in sanding it - you are going to have to get rid of the shine anyway or the new stuff wont stick propper..

It looks like yours is EK - it should be orignial acrilic - Dulon, I think..

If they painted acrilic over that they should have sanded it - so I'm thinkin this is why it might be enamel - that stuff sticks to anything shiny - just try it on glass....
and - if its enamel - you are going to ruin the acrilic factory underneath if you use some solvent or stripper..... hope you got long nails - you wont have em for long..

Stinky - scraper sounds good - maybe use soame wet soap so the scraper wont scratch whats under it.

its just like peeling sunburn!! Hmm maybe I'll try an airgun scraping combo, failing that I'll sand and repaint. Thanks for the advice guys.

easy way to test is rub the paint with metho if it comes off its waterbased acrylic and if it comes off with turps its house enamel
