my concern is that i'v heard that chrome plating is done different in NSW as it illegal to do it the same way they use to do them (something to do with copper tank & being envioromentally harmful) but its not illegal in the other states...
and as mine will be living near the ocean & a driver for the next 50years, i want to get it done right the first time... so i dont need to do it again!!!

matty there was a grey,chrome, tappet cover on ebay for$200 ,,so i rang pinerivers electroplaters to see what it would cost to chrome mine and she said $120 ,,,so it might be worth sending them up here cause that sounds dear ,, and i think mal said they were good to deal with

does seem a bit steep
i remember having the same reaction when i had bits rechromed
as with everything else in life, get a 2nd opinion/qoute

im no expert in the field, but expect to pay more for cast parts - as opposed to bumpers etc
a little harder to work with, apparently - hence the qoute

but what do you do?, i guess its like the icing on the cake - and its gotta be done.......mmm icing

i was getting 2-3 items done at a time.....as i could afford it - even before the paint went on
so i didnt have a big bill for chroming at the end

geez that does sound really steep matty, maore than double what i paid for similar FC pieces from the same guys a couple of years ago.

my cast headlight rims were only $60 each taillights $40, bumper bars were $110 per section

not doubting you but are you sure they were right
and this was through electroplating technologies?

Yey Matty, as per PM.

The people at pine rivers were good to deal with. Why I went to them was because I saw some of the work they did on a mates cady and it was absolutely brilliant. Mine some is better than others. Maybe a day of the week thing.
They had trouble with my bonnet bar (a good one to start with, no blisters)
when I got it back it no longer fits the bonnet properly. Looks like they have ground the shit out of the back edge. So I will be getting another one done down the track.

Its very hard to find good quality chrome platers especially if you price concious.
Even though I wasn't overly concerned about the cost, I just wanted to get what I thought I was paying for.

I used them for my ute-I live less than 100m from ocean and park 5 days a week across the road from the beach.My chrome is still excellent after 6 years.

My chrome cost $1500-I had headlight and tailight rims,bonnet bar and indicator surrounds,sill scratch plates,lots of screws,door handles and door catches plus latches done!

Your quote is probably up to date cost!I don't think I will do too much on my FE!

Matty, you know you can buy Chrome paint in a can.
You pay for what you get, put a nice clear over the top.

About $10 each.
Could do several items with one can.

I remember doing that when I was a teenager. You go into an auto store and see the paint with the chrome lid and think WOW maybe I'll fix my rusty chrome.
Then you paint it

Serious in that's it's a possibility.
Not something I would do, but did do when younger, and no money.

finny... nup, no can work. thanks for the idea though... like mal i think whe i was a kid we sprayed a bmx that chrome that came out more like a semi gloss grey...


got some other prices yesterday... would you believe it their all within a $10.00 difference per part... so a quick "WAKE UP CALL" obviously this is the going rate now...

bumpers may be done later, much later...when have $$$ !!!!

A friend of mine has some chrome paint highlights on his Lamborghini race car. Looks bloody good. However, the price for application would be similar to getting the things done properly anyway.

if the prices proceed to go up, those bumpers may cost you a hell of a lot more later matty, why not just bite the bullet now and do them. The last thing you want is to pull the car apart again at a later date and scratch it.
