my dads putting a 253 in his fb sedan, not quite sure what diff to use
was thinking of putting a lh diff in but it is over all 15mm longer, would this matter
I would stick to a HR diff, the old banjo can take a fair bit, and there cheep to replace anyway (compared to your 9inch), unless money no option , Trev .

I've had red motor 2.78 banjo in a HQ 308/T400 no problems, even used 6 cyl rear uni joint ( not V8 uni joint).
Also 253/Trimatic in a UC Torana with red motor banjo 2.78 gears fitted in the UC Salisbury diff ( banjo and UC salisbury gears will interchange) again, no problems.
Didn't abuse them ( read old farts speed here) and never had a problem with them.
Anything is breakable given enough stresses beyond engineered capability but the old banjo centre, like Trev said, will take a bit more than people think.
FB/EK's are relatively light bodied ( close to the same weight as LC/LJ Torana) and this helps as well.
