Tramp rods

Post by Malcolm »

Hi all,

Does anyone still use tramp rods anymore.
I remember having them on my car when I was 17 simply for the fact that they looked cool, or so I thought.
But now I thinking of them for stopping diff windup.

Will they work :?:

malcom you would be better off with i think they are called track rods, basically a round rod that goes from the diff sadle to the front pin on the springs
or in the V8 ute we used like a third link mounted from the top of the axle tube to the floor

What would you need those for Malcolm, are you going to be doing burnouts ? Not on the street I hope , you may have to impound your own car !!!!

Hey Mal,
Sounds like all these guys dont know how to have fun

There is nothing worse than axle tramp both while going flat out or trying to stop. The rear springs on the holden are used to copping 35 horses from greys not 350 from todays technology.
Spring wind up is a huge problem if you drive it hard (no doubt you will).
I use a half leaf from the diff hangers to front eye on top of the spring.
This still lets the diff move but reduces any wind up foward and back.
You will also need a tab to hold it in place between the diff and eye as it can float if not secured. ( Hope this makes sense ).
I will try and get a photo in the next couple of days.
If you use rods the diff will not move and wheel spin will result with no tramp. The method i use is a happy medium and Im still surprised how much grip I can get with skinny tyres.

You never know, one day I may get the urge to see how it goes in a straight line, or maybe round in circles.
