Reds & Greys have the same bellhousing bolt pattern :D
so it will bolt up, its just a matter of using the appropriate accessories.

Is this a Hydromatic or Turbohydro you are refering to?

Holdens went from a Holden pattern*(Hydromatic, Trimatic, 3&4 speed manuals)
To Chev pattern*(Turbohydro 350/400)

As far as I know*, some trimatics can be for either one, but not both.

*= I have been wrong before
And if I am, feel free to educate me too :)

Come to think of it,
It was the 308 block that could be had in either bolt pattern,
not the trimatic.

Cheers

Never done it but.....

Hydramatic may bolt straight up to the red block however you will may find you will come unstuck with the flywheel and damper plate.

Grey motor flywheel to crank is a four bolt setup and red motor flywheel to crank is a 6 bolt setup.

Dunno how a well used Hydramatic would cope with the extra horses a red motor would put out either, that is,if the Hydro to red conversion is possible.

If you want a red motor and auto, it would be best to go trimatic I reckon.

so i took a chance on a hydo on ebay that come of a red 179 in a eh and its identical to the ek ,, even the damper plate is the same,,,i did get the flywheel with it but didnt check out the bolts to see if there is six or four,,so if ya looking for one they are the same guess that means you could stay hydro and go red if you wanted or go grey from red  if ya real old skool cool
